  • silly question I know but what happens after your anniversary date. Do you have to go though the current tier system all over again starting from £0 as if you were a new customer?

With the lower bands identical for platinum and blue, is there any point to the blue anymore?
I wonder why it is, that young men are always cautioned against bad girls. Anyone can handle a bad girl. It's the good girls men should be warned against.-David Niven

Sorry just to clarify as there's a doubt in my mind .....do you start at the bottom of the tiers on your anniversary date or is it in October when they introduce the new rates? Have got neurotic about this lot now!

In October, they will recalculate your "eligible spend" so that you would get the same amount of cashback as at the old tier but whenever you are due your cashback, they will use the new tiers. In other words, they will bump up the eligible spend slightly.
for example, if you were due your cashback in December say:
They will use your false total eligible spend and calculate it using the new tiers but everything you spent up to Octber will effectively be at the old tier rate and then in Jan, your eligible spend will be back to zero again.
  • Thanks for that sloughflint. Will change my mind and hang on until Jan then which is when my anniversary is. Effectively (as I understand it) I won't be on the new lower/lowest tier until then. Am I right in thinking that it will be performing the same as all the other 1% cashback cards until Jan? Was going to lose this card straight away but am now trying to protect my credit score a bit as my tarting card needs looking at in November. On a learning curve with all this, but trying hard!
  • The break-even point between Blue and Platinum used to be at £8000 (at which point you'd earn £70 on either). Platinum was better above that. Now Platinum is the same as Blue up to £10k and beats it above that. But if you spend £13500 you only get back £135. I.e. You now have to spend £13.5k to get 1% back

Are you sure of that? and how much was it against your total spending? just curios to know how much they have paid you?

    Cheers

    Sorry, I'm being daft !!!

Dug out my original paperwork and found it has indeed been 12 months. Very nice too ... £148

Now thinking about knocking the Amex on the head, as my new yearly spend won't be anywhere near as much. Perhaps i'll just use the Tesco clubcard credit card ... converted to deal vouchers i think this is almost the same rate??
  • I've been spending more than I would have to get to the 2% tier and it's been withdrawn midway through my cashback year. That's just a con. Leeds and Holbeck done very similar thing, so don't be tempted to get their card instead!
  • All spend before Oct 1st will be subject to the old tiers...all spend post October 1st will be subject to the new tiers. The changes are not retroactive. If you've been at the 2% tier since, say, August, you'll earn the 2% on spend in August and September but that will drop on spend post October 1st.
