Thanks sloughflint. Will stop spending on this I think and move over to egg as primary card. After cashback in Jan will cancel Amex and probably apply for the new card offering 3% for fuel and food if its track record is ok, keeping the egg for the rest. We need a second card as we go through the Egg capped cashback in a year. Don't know if husband could come off my card and get one of his own I suppose? Then we could double the cashback allowance - Our credit rating appears to be quite strong. Can you see any problems with this strategy please- your'e obviously good wiv da maffs!0

Instead of using amex, I'm now trying to as quickly as possible reach the 5k mark before they change their mind on the 3% then I'll use egg as my primary.
Why not apply for GE now? They're a bit disorganised/behind with the times. Currently giving 3% on everything. Downside: they don't have online access yet so have to wait for the statement via snail mail. They also take out the DD late so money stays in the bank a little bit longer.0 -
Will have a look at this later today at GE. I had seen a lot of people being refused GE card and had assumed that having amex and egg together would rule us out. Obviously not - so yep, will give it a try thanks. We are around the 7-8k mark with amex, so now would be the time to stop I guess. Thanks for that....0

If one of you is unsucessful, then maybe get the other person to apply. Hopefully between you, you will be accepted and then just get the other person the free additional card.
Good luck with your application.0 -
I think a previous poster was right about Amex Blue being phased out.
The bands are now identical for Blue/Platinum, with 1% cashback starting at 3,500. You can no longer apply for blue online, theres a number to ring. For Platinum theres an online form. The card compare no longer has blue in it. Oh and the what card is right for me? bit recommends Platinum if you want cash back on all the income bands.
Pity really, I like the new see through. If they ask existing customers to change, I'll ask whether theres a see through Platinum.I wonder why it is, that young men are always cautioned against bad girls. Anyone can handle a bad girl. It's the good girls men should be warned against.-David Niven0 -
I rang the call centre about my Amex platinum and asking about the changes to cashback happening in October. The lady I spoke to said current cashback tiers would remain for current cardholders and only new customers were getting the lower rates???
Do we know for sure that our rates will reduce in October? Has anyone had it in writing? If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...0 -
my rates are being reduced, had letter today and i ve had my card for approx 3 years0

I got an Amex platinum this year due to it coming out best for cashback.
My gripe is that i usually spend £12k or so a year on my credit card, however i'm not going to get anywhere near that as so many retailers dont accept it. i reckon I've spent at least £2k on my mastercard since i've had the Amex, which means that i probably wont spend £9k over the course of the year on the Amex. If they now change the tiersl, I think my amex will be cut up and I'll go back to whatever matercard is best.0 -

I've been a blue customer for years and got a letter about the new bands, so the changes affect blue customers.I wonder why it is, that young men are always cautioned against bad girls. Anyone can handle a bad girl. It's the good girls men should be warned against.-David Niven0 -
