I can’t even see a ‘code box’ in Notepad, or is he referring to the whole page?
Is he saying ‘copy and paste’ the lower box in his post directly into Notepad? If so how does that work?
His last comment: “This is what happens to the registry if you remove Bing from IE manage search” sounds like I’m likely to get a nasty surprise.
Frankly I’d rather live with deleting the error messages than mess with the Registry.
One good thing that’s come out of all this, you’ll be pleased to know, and thanks to you, is that the overlap problem appears to be cured.
Have you had a chance to look at the results of the Hijack this log? #70
Simply copy and paste the log in the 'codebox' into a notepad file. And call it -
whateveryoulike.reg
(whateveryoulike means you can call it anything at all, the .reg bit is the important bit. So you could call it aliEn.reg or dzjksdf.reg or 563835.reg etc)
Double click the newly made regfile to run it (Takes microseconds, so youll only need to run it once but you wont even realise anythings happened)
Ill have a look at hijack now:idea:0 -
Logs fine
But id TICK and FIX these in hijack (Rubbish thats not needed, or in the case of lidl - dangerous) ~

This has always been an IE error and it still isn't fixed.
All i did was follow RIK,s advice and and reinstalled IE8. Everything else looks exactly the same to me. And I can assure you there is no overlap.(At the moment). Fingers crossed.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -

Will do.
The reason I added lidl to the trusted zone was because the E'mail's they send (sometimes with free or money off vouchers) did not show the pictures unless I clicked the top bar each time. It didn't work and I forgot all about it so I'll follow your advice and remove it from the trusted site.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -

This old dinosaur PC has never run so well.
I still can't understand the notepad thing though.
I opened 'notepad', copied and pasted the box, then named it as you suggested in 'save as' . But once its in there. How do I get it to run?
I'm afraid, when it comes to techy things I need blow by blow directions.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
Show file extensions as in this link ~
http://www.fileinfo.com/help/windows-show-extensions.html
Find the saved notepad file
It will be called ****.txt
Change the ****.txt to
****.reg
Double click the REG file youve just created:idea:0
