I'm back.
It didn't work.
Those blessed error messages or whatever they're called are still appearing.
It seems that IE8 wants me to use 'Bing'. And if I don't, it's going to continue to make me delete these messages one at a time whenever I open the browser.

P.S.
Hey RIK!
Someone else (donnie) suggested this:
msiexec /x {8FFC5648-FAF8-43A3-BC8F-42BA1E275C4E}
Any ideas what it does.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
Without looking back through the thread ive no clue. But Donnies advice is always sound so go for it
As for Bing I found this ~
"its called in-text advertising. A word with double underlining will popup an ad. Kontera is another one.The way to block them is to click on the ? at the top right of the ad and it will let you disable it from there.":idea:0 -
Another couple of possibles (Seeming as im unsure at what point they appear)
"IE 8; In Tools> Manage Add-on's> highlight "search Providers" on left column> highlight "Bing" & 'remove' (bottom of window)> Close"
"Go to control panel-internet options, look at home page settings and remove live.com... no more Bing":idea:0 -

"When visiting this site I have recently noticed that the right hand side of the screen is obscurred by the overlapping information (under the 'Forum jump' button). I dont know if anyone else has reported this or are affected by it. It's annoying because it hides part of the text in the threads I am trying to read.
Is there something wrong at your end or am I the only one affected?"
I am suffering this problem, with FF on Linux. It is not screen size, font size or a virus. It is a straight forward html coding problem with unmatched tags. the problem goes away when the site puts up a message saying that it will be off line.
I have isolated the problem and posted the offending code in site feedback, but so far I have been ignored. Please find my thread and bump it!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I’ve tried this several times already but unfortunately the ‘remove’ option is inactive ie: it doesn’t turn blue as it does for all the other ‘search providers’. Bing is like a cancer that knows how to look after itself, all attempts to remove it fails.
My browser always goes directly to Google but it’s annoying having to delete these 2 messages before I can start browsing. I’m reluctant to change search providers because I have my settings in Google.
If you are using IE8, which search provider do you use?Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
Please run COMBOFIX
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out
If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download
(If no log comes up or you lose it, COMBOFIX.TXT can be found in C drive):idea:0 -

I messed up.
When I was asked to shut down anti-virus I realised I didn't know how to do this. I cant find a switch off button anywhere when I bring up the micr security screen.
Looks like I'll have to start over again if I can find the off switch.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
to turn off real time scanning open MSE>Settings>Real Time Protection, uncheck "Turn on real time protection".
(remember to turn it on again after combofix):idea:0 -
