I’ve just switched back to Internet Explorer and directly to this page which is now displaying correctly again.
Unfortunately, this happens intermittently and it remains a problem.
If anyone can come up with a solution I would be grateful.
Now my PC has slowed down to an unacceptable crawl (probably an update going on in the background). So I’ll have to sign off until it completes.
I'll check in later to see if anyone has a solution.

Sounds infected to me
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
Microsoft Security Essentials is always running.
I’ve already installed Malwarebytes, which I update and run regularly.
After taking advice here a few weeks ago I have also installed and run ccleaner .
So can there be a problem virus that these things cant detect?
I've just printed off your comments aliEnRIK. I'm going to need to study this. I'm still learning PC Talk!
Does 'reboot' mean to close everything down completely, switch off and restart or something else?
What does Hijack do exactly, it doesn't have an appealing name. is it free? You'll notice that all my other virus software is gratis.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -

I have to say this was happening to me as well but it seemed to be the size of the screen which was causing the problem. On my desktop at home it was okay (bigger screen) but on the laptop at home and the desktop at work (both smaller screens) text was obscured by the right-hand column info. However I normally have my favourites pinned on every pc I use and I found by closing them that sorted it. Don't know if that's any help just for that particular issue.Marg0

Theres many trojans etc that no programs can detect. But dont worry about that just yet.
reboot means restart
Hijack is free (Everything we post here is free unless stated otherwise). It gives us a list of running processes:idea:0 -

1.64 GHz 256 MB of RAM
Do add ons cause a problem? I seem to have quite a few and I havent a clue where they come from or what they do.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
When you post the hijack log, ill help you out
Either way, you definitely need more RAM. No wonder its slow:idea:0 -

Everything has seized up again, so I'll have to go until another day.
How do I increase RAM?
It suddenly looks as if the 'overlap' is the least of my problems.
Please continue to post here if you think of anything else and I'll try to read it later.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
memory ~
Goto crucial
http://www.crucial.com/uk/?click=true
Scan your computer and post all information it gives here
Then we'd need to find the correct memory for you to buy, and you fit it (very simple as it only fits one way round):idea:0
