Scan your computer and post all information it gives here
Then we'd need to find the correct memory for you to buy, and you fit it (very simple as it only fits one way round)

    Hang on.
I have only just downloaded Hijackthis as you suggested so stick around whilst I try to post the log file before it all seizes up again.

Just wanted to say my home computer and laptop are fine, I get the overlap on the works computer. Both use IE8
A cunning ploy to stop me looking at MSE instead of getting on with the work I'm meant to be doing? ;)

Main thing you need to do is get memory usage down (At least until you get more RAM)
Open 'windows messenger', goto options and stop it from auto starting

TICK and FIX these in hijack ~

    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = ?

Id recommend uninstalling MSE and installing AVAST 5 in its place

Then you need to decide what you use and what you dont to determine what else to switch off etc

If you wish to stick with what you have you can.
The member 'closed' will help you get it running as good as he can. But id really recommend more RAM if you want the computer running better

I was'nt aware that windows messenger was running on my PC. I haven't used it to my Knowledge. Where will I find it to stop it auto starting?
    Remember I'm not a techy.

I was only joking about the paying for Ram, If it's possible to improve things I will follow this up. I've saved your message on this.

I had Avast installed but it took so long each time it updated and seemed to take too long doing a virus check and kept sending me Red Box messages suggesting I load the full version and send a fee. So it had to go. It was this site (Martin Lewis) that recommended MSE.

AVAST version 5 is supposed to be the lightest to run now (According to 'closed' and he loves this 'memory footprint' stuff)

I assume your talking abut AVAST version 4?

Messenger ~ cant recall exactly. Run it and click about to find options

I would'nt know where to look for 'messenger'.
    Who is 'closed'?

I've done what you suggested with hijack. 7 items gone.

I had all kinds of problems with IE8 so I got rid and went back to IE7.
The biggest pain was error messages about add-ons.
