I sent this message to MSE Archna who's looking into it. Has anyone else got this problem?

"When visiting this site I have recently noticed that the right hand side of the screen is obscurred by the overlapping information (under the 'Forum jump' button). I dont know if anyone else has reported this or are affected by it. It's annoying because it hides part of the text in the threads I am trying to read.
Is there something wrong at your end or am I the only one affected?"

    No problems here
Have you tried a different browser (Firefox for example) to determine if its specific to your browser (Which I suspect it is)

Just booted up Firefox (where I am now) and this seems ok..
Wonder why Internet Explorer is showing this problem?

Did you need to do anything or did it correct itself?

It will be IE failing to correctly render the page.

I just played with IE 8 and it's a question of how wide your browser window is. If you have to scroll horizontally then with IE it does move the right hand column of data over the main content a bit. That doesn't happen with FF.

If you reduce the font size a bit (CTRL and - keys) the window size requirement is less so it's going to be a combination of screen res and font size diffeences that explains why some see the problem with IE8 and others don't.

I was about to post saying that I'm not seeing the problem with IE8 here, when it occurred to me that I'm still using the 'Old look'. If I switch to 'New look' then it does indeed behave exactly as you describe. So I guess switching back to 'Old look' would be an option until the issue has been fixed.

  • Now this is strange.
I’ve just switched back to Internet Explorer and directly to this page which is now displaying correctly again.
Unfortunately, this happens intermittently and it remains a problem.
If anyone can come up with a solution I would be grateful.

Now my PC has slowed down to an unacceptable crawl (probably an update going on in the background). So I’ll have to sign off until it completes.

I'll check in later to see if anyone has a solution.

The simplest solution is to ditch IE and use a browser that is CSS standards compliant (just about any modern browser other than IE).
