If you don't manage to get any cash try calling your electric company to see if they will extend your emergency credit and ask if you can pay it back at a lesser rate- so if your normal emergency is £5 and they give you an extra £5 ask if you can pay the extra £5 at £2 a week or whatever- it may be worth a try?

What exactly do you have in the way of food? It is possible to make a meal from very little if you get some inspiration/ideas.

Try again tomorrow morning for the crisis loan- the worst they can do is refuse you again- explain that you have no food, almost no electric, no baby milk, nappies etc. If you don't get any joy then take yourself to the social services office and ask to speak to someone again- explain it all again and tell them you need help. They may not give you cash but they might top up your electric for you and give you a food parcel? If they give you cash I would suggest you make a shopping list of the bare essentials and get as much as you can- base your meals around potatoes/rice or pasta as you can get big bags of all of those fairly cheap.

Google Homestart to see if there is one in your area- if there is call them as well- they are there to help and support families with kids under 5 & they may be able to offer more advice.

Is there anyone who could do an online shop for you? A friend did this for me once as a surprise when I was extremely skint and very low and it helped immensely.

If you were closer I would happily give you some food from my cupboards but I am pretty far away from you I'm afraid.

ETA your health visitor may be able to help as well?

hi, thanks for all your advice, the social worker said something about homestart and that she would make a refaral for me, i will definitley look in to everything that you advised. they only brought a small carton of milk, a tin of beans, a tin of soup,a packet of noodles, carton of orange and tea bags to last us tonight, crisis loans said they would pass it to community care grants and i would be contacted in 24 hours but i doubt they would pay that as ive looked online and it says they only pay living expences if you have just got out of prison or on release. but i will try the other things you have all said. all i can do is try

Oh Ella, I wish I was closer to you so I could help, just reading this has upset me so God knows what you must be feeling!!

Your poor babies, I can't believe nobody can help you, like you say, if you were starving your kids on purpose, Social Services would have something to say about that.

I hope you get sorted with some money soon ~I can't believe your ex has upped and left leaving you in the !!!!!! with the kids, what a !!!!!!!!

  • I have been reading your thread and whilst I cannot appreciate your situation as never been there, and I may be a old 'geezer', my heart goes out to you. I just want you to know that like others, if you were nearer you would be more than welcome to what help my wife and I could give you.

I just cannot believe (well yes I can!) that in this country in the 21st century, there are people who are so desperate for just a little help yet get none.

I know it's not much, but I want you to know that we are both thinking about you tonight and hope that tomorrow is a better day and that something genuinely good happens for you.

    Best wishes
    xx

Come over to the 'old style' boards, there are loads of us who have been in your situation, I was waiting 4 months for my income support!

The 'old style' board specialises in cookery, running a house and bringing up children on pennies!

If i didnt have access to the internet I wouldn't have found out half the information I did and would be in a far worse off position, internet can and has been a lifesaver for many yet is often the first thing people moan at.

thanks for all your support i think todays been the hardest day ive had, there should be more help for people on my situation and others aswell but there isnt and they just pass you from one department to the next and it true with social services if i was reported for starving them they would be straight round yet you beg for help and you get made to feel like dirt and warned not to ask again.
thank you so so much everyone for all your support
