Social services will help with feeding your children. This is not a sarky post btw, if you are in need get in contact with them.

I would call the helpline again as they have given you incorrect information, if you are going from a joint claim to a single claim, in these instances only you can make the single claim over the phone therefore cutting out the waiting time to get the application form and then send it back. I really dont know why the advisor didnt put you through to the new claims team but no worries, call them back and ask to be put through to them and they will do your application over the phone and that should cut down the waiting time for you. In regards to fast tracking it thru the JCP I heard that it can actually take longer than a normal application in some instances so your best bet is doing it over the phone.

    Hi

Don't mean to sound rude or anything but are you sure you can go from a joint to a single claim over the phone only this issue may be relevant to me in the near future and last time I had to wait for a form and do a new claim etc and it took ages and I had no money in the meantime so I will have same problem as person who originally posted xxxx

Is this only the case for those single parents on Income Support/benefits or for everyone?

  • Yes definetely. I was working full time and not even getting a lot of tax credits and they allowed me to change from a joint claim to a single claim over the phone.

    Did you get any help?

The only way that you cant make a single claim over the phone is if the separation was over 3 months ago. In that case, you do need to fill in the form and send it back!

hi everyone, i posted here last week as my partner had left me and our children and i had to claim income support and make a new child tax credit claim as the last was in his name. we have no money coming in, i cant feed my children as the job centre wont pay a crisis loan because we had dept with them.
i have sold everything thats sellable this week to feed my kids and i am now back to square one again i cant go on no more.
i have been to citizens advice and they have contacted charitys in my area for help as the children was starving and they was not able to help and they tryed to get me a crisis loan and i was refused and they said they would pass it on to community care grant as i wasnt aloud a crisis loan.
i ended up breaking down in there, i have also just found out i'm pregnant which doesnt help as how i am i supposed to buy things for baby when i cant even feed the children i have already.
they rang social service in the end and explained to them what had happened and they aloud us to a small food parcel to last tonight and warned they couldnt do it again.
we have no gas, nappys, baby milk and now no food again the electrics on £1.24 so thats not going to last very long.
i really dont know what to do tomorrow, i was told that i would be contacted within 24 hours about the community care grant. can anyone tell me would i be entitled to it?? or are they unlikely to award me anything?? i really dont know where to turn ive really had enough now and i cant go on like this. does anyone have any advice??
    thank you
