However, I enjoy the banter that occurs in the daily thread and it wasn't that I wanted to see gone (despite what some may think) What I wanted an end to was the lists everyone put, saying a personal message to everyone, regardless of whether it was necessary. That, in the main, has disappeared and it makes the thread much easier to read. I have no problems with a couple of personalised comments, especially if a poster has asked a question.
Today's daily thread has been a p*ss-take, to be quite honest. Yesterday's thread was more along the lines of how it used to be, but today's has degenerated into people sticking one-line posts in - especially to say hello or make some jokey comment. I'm all for light-heartedness and banter, but let's decide what we are going to do on OS and try to stick to it.
If that offends some people, so be it. Let's get back to some semblance of normality. I thought we were all supposed to be grown ups here - maybe not!
edit. I have just read the latter part of the daily thread - and that's what it should be, so not saying you all were taking the proverbial
Got to say that I agree that "highlighting everyones post" and what they are doing has become a pain and has quite a few times put me off in case I upset someone by missing them out and if theres 50 posts by 8 am then its unlikely i will bother - which could explain peeps posting at 12.01 btw -- is that soo bad some people are more night than day prefer that:o
I think this will go back to a sensible normality if we just allow it too but if we start imposing strict rules then its bound to cause a bit of a riot:D
Maybe there is a place for the "coffee shop" that appeared for a while especially for OS peeps - but then I dont understand why chat cant go to the arms or to pm - the arms is really quite a fun place and you lot would sort em all out:rotfl:0 -
Excellent idea Kaz, an OS thread purely to post what OS things you are doing that day, and a daily OS 'chat' thread, which includes other things you are doin(as well as OS things) but also a place people can ask questions and feel they can support others in what they are doing that day!!!! And just in case someone thinks the 'chat' doesnt belong on the OS board, i would disagree, OS people seem to be a different set of people than those in the 'arms' and i would say, that this type of 'chat over the garden fence' thread would be OS, as lets face it, i can go all day without seeing another person, and back in the OS days, that wasnt the case!!! So the virtual chat would be OS!!!!!0

Well - this bit got me thinking.
I thought the rules were going to get v v strict and Andrea was pinging on her rubber gloves as I read. What was going on - Stardrops smuggling? In unmentionable places!
Oh dear - silly me. I see.
For what it's worth - It's only a thread, it's not "real", as in you don't know me from adam. I could be a scary husband beater who feeds her kids frosties with Irn Bru and chicken nuggets in real life - you only see what I want you to see.
I say lets get on with it - it's a bit of fun. It helps me appreciate my life a bit more - everyone has to cook and clean. I used to feel like I was the only one. But now it's fun again, I know you're all out there doing the same thing. I have a place to turn when I need info. I can maybe even pass stuff on (too scared so far - but I will do so)
I do agree about the mentions for the sake of it - if you have something to say, say it. Don't be afraid to ask a question.
Sorry - I'm a newbie and I hope it's not out of place for me to speak.
My vote is that we're adult enough to get on with things and not need rules and regs.
Any way - back to the rubber gloves.:rotfl:"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -

You are not a neusance and to be fair there were not too many keywords to search for on this one but on but on most subjects they are. Someone further up this thread has said they don't have the time to read the long merged threads that contain the answer they are looking forpresumable we all have the time to answer the same questions again and again to save them the bother
CAN I FREEZE MILK appears with mind numbing regularity now we have threads asking what certain foods taste like. :rotfl: If people on the OS board hadn't pn'd me to say they felt the same I would think I was going mad. LOL

Churchmouse wrote:I do find the search facilities don't seem to work for me. Indeed did we not have "officials" asking for urgent help to find certain threads over the last couple of days?Catowen wrote:sometimes the search facility doesnt come up with the answer you are after and rather than sit looking through hundreds of threads, its nice for people to feel that they can ask, and someone will be there to help!!!!
I find that when I put a word or couple of words in the search box it brings up quite a few threads as a result and I find I am searching for ages through long threads and still can't find what Im looking for. I usually try first before asking though, but if I can't come up with what I want then I will ask.
I think the two main things that need keeping an eye on are the times that the Daily thread is started (I posted a week or so ago making a joke about this!) and the other thing is feeling that you have to acknowledge everybody that has posted before you.0 -
I agree with MATH again, and think that while it is improving now that people are stopping the whole highlighting everyone else's posts thing it is also so much better that if someone has something to say to another person that is not related to OS, the whole wording of the post contains nothing about OS, to pm that person. I thought that was the whole point of pm's, and on an 'Old Style Daily Thread' I just can't see the relevance, it's just irritating when I want to read about the old style things that people have been doing in their day and have to scroll through posts that sometimes have nothing to do with it. Please, please make the most of the pm function.
I haven't yet read today's DT but I know that yesterdays and day before's were much better.
The rules that MATH suggested are good ones. If anything these might encourage newbies as they will know where they stand and will help them know they don't need to acknowledge everyone, and it will give them some guidance.
I think that the 'thanking' that has been done the past couple of days may have been used to kind of acknowledge other posters, and I think this is a good idea because it stops space being wasted on the thread.
Maybe posters who weren't around when this thread began might like to have a look at some of the earlier DT's from last year when they began, as I do sympathise with posters who don't even know how it originated so might be confused by some of this.
Just my opinion, don't mean to hurt anyones feelings.

Math your a star and I love your posts you make me laugh so much .......and I have to ask if when you first started posting you knew where all the search functions were and if you actually posted the odd thing maybe just to build some rapport with the OS people. I agree I hate the "can you freeze..." threads but cant you just skip them and let someone else answer or a bg can point them in the direction of the search function (got to say squeaky was so good at that)
We have to recognise that the OS community is a changing one with new people coming on board all the time who may be naive to the way OS works and therefore need help from us old f *rts (thats me btw!!) we also need to accept that the daily thread may change from its original format over time - hey ho thats life - Accept what you cant change and change what you cant accept. Maybe its time for some of us oldies to accept some change:rotfl:0 -
i didnt post today and am now quite glad i didnt i havent read it yet as i had nothing os to say i said nothing but i did miss the good feeling that came back from writing in the thread reading all of this is worrying me as i dont think everyone will be happy with the outcome i feel that this may degenerate into some of the upset we have seen on here already
i will no longer post in the daily thread as i feel whatever i say may not be up to peoples expectations i will miss this very much but i want to offend noone
lol carol0 -
Aaaaaarrrrgggh, I sort of agree with everyone who has posted so far but in different ways. Yes the mentioning everyone in a long list was getting annoying and because I often start the morning with a quick post before getting the kids off to school I just didn't have the time or the energy to do this.
The thread was being started the minute midnight struck even before sometimes which meant it was already 3 pages long before the day had even started which was just silly as it then became no longer the "Daily Thread" but "yesterdays news".
I don't mind people asking questions that have been asked before as I know the search facility is frustrating and inaccurate but I don't see a problem with someone who is more proficient at using it to post links to answers Although I do wish more people would use the Mega Index as most of the answers are already there beautifully indexed by Squeaky. Maybe we should help by directing new members to the Mega Index?
Otherwise? I would miss the friendly nature and the chat over the fence too, when you live in such a commercial society it's hard to find like minded people who appreciate your attempts at saving money, finding bargains and not wasting resources.
And I completely agree that Old Stylers are in a league of their own. I've tried the arms, didn't like it, got my knuckles rapped once for not liking it but I don't care now. I just don't fit in "the arms" and other os'ers will understand this.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
