How frustrating about the houses:mad:. Buying and selling houses never seems to be straight forward or strss-free.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it all works out for you and that the perfect job comes up soon for your OH.

Re. the house survey - that's pants (both of them). Sometimes I think surveys aren't worth the paper they're written on. When it costs an arm and both legs and contains statements like 'the condition of the walls could not be assessed due to the presence of wallcoverings' (as ours did). They're just covering their own backs all the time. But by the same token, you don't dare ignore it or not get one in case you buy a wreck unknowingly. I would say treat the survey with healthy scepticism and if you have a builder friend then get them to visit with you. They have a nose for these things.
As for the vicar - I agree with your mum and Froggy (sorry for conforming to national stereotypes - but I do love your name) - tell him that's the deal or it's off. You shouldn't be browbeaten into knocking £££££s off your price under a veiled threat. And by a man of the cloth too .

Thanks guys ...Well it seems me publicly slating the vicar has worked and he's fine with the agreed price now.:j I'm really pleased. Our emotions are so up and down at the moment. I hate it.
I've arranged for a builder to go around to see our future house to give a quote for the repairs. I'm really hoping that the damp is nothing.
You have to be sensible and realistic at the end of the day don't you AuntMabel and with older properties you have to allow for crumbled plaster etc but not be prepared to have to replaster a whole room when you redecorate! It's very difficult moving ,..I'm glad I don't do it often
I'm sorry Froggy I'm not being very supportive of you am I and my problems must seem so small, you must feel so much more anxious than me.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Don't worry Iris... Moving is very stressfull, and I can understand.. We all have mountains to climb, and we will all succeed..
You are supportive...

Not good news ..OH is at work now and so fed up he wants to come home sick. He's never ever done that before. This job is knocking his confidence. I really feel for him but I feel I have to be strong for him or else he'll walk. It really is that bad there.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0

Just keep being strong for him.. its all you can doMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

re the damp. our first house report came back saying it needed a replacement damp course. We got this quoted at 3k. This was knocked off the price.
We lived there for a few months to save up for the work, and a builder friend suggested a dehumidifier in the celler. We hired an industrial one for a week and the walls seemed alot better. 2 months later company who gave quote came to asess again and couldnt get any damp readings :T
When we sold 3 years later and they had the survey there was no issue the either. I'm not suggesting it would work in your case but like everyone else says they like to cover their backsides so may not be as bad as suggested!!0 -
Thanks Brodiebobs that is very helpful to know. I haven't a clue how much a DPC is now but OUCH at 3k.
I've just watched The Apprentice , we watched one of them in Cornwall last week and now we're hooked. Poor OH is working though so I watched it alone. Some of them really haven't got a clue have they!
My lovely OH has also just got a news of another interview. They are coming thick and fast now. Thankfully.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0
