The only advice I can give about the wedding is: Do want you and your DH2B want, not what others want or say you should have. I got so stressed about our wedding as both MIL and my mother wanted to invited great uncle bulgaria that we haven't seen in twenty years......I felt I could tell my mum to butt out (in the niceset possible way) but did not feel I could approach my MIL. I really wish we had just gone to Las Vegas and done it! We did end up with the small wedding we wanted but ended up bringing it forward by 6 months just to get our own way!! We ended up getting married on Christmas Eve:eek: I still laugh now at how many people were convinced I must be pregnant as we brought the wedding forward:rotfl:Like you cannot get married if you are pregnant:rotfl:. Anyway I still tease people that I am cultivating my baby still 6 years on! (Actually the size on my belly, this IS possible!)
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy xxxxx

Thanks TPA. With 39 guests we are only inviting who we want and I'm not too bothered about offending people.I'm not paying for anyone I've not seen for yonks and people that didn't even send baby blue a birth card can get knotted!
My mum has already said that she's not happy if so and so goes but has said that with it being 2 years away SHE'LL decide nearer the time :rotfl::rotfl: She's had 3 weddings already ..this ones mineI can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Iris - I went to a sewing shop and looked in the pattern books, then bought the pattern I wanted in my size. More precise than pictures that someone else needs to then get a pattern for.
Do you know anyone who sews? I was able to get it done by someone I knew. If you are going to do that then what you could do is get them to make a dummy run version in a cheaper fabric to test the sizing (and their skills). Also go simple-ish in the dress styling.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -
Thanks Katsura. I didn't think of that. I'll keep that in mind when I start looking. Need to shift a ton of weight first though! You did well to have a 5k wedding with 100 guests . I've been weighing up what you said and that seems very reasonable.
The buyers surveyor has been , he arrived at 9:15 and left at 12:20 ..I don't live in a massive house either and I'm thankful he's gone as I wanted my house back! He had a padded gillet on which tickled me as he had all his bits ( not THOSE bits ) hanging off, tape measure, pen etc , he really was prepared. I tried to butter him up with the HM cake but he wouldn't have any of it.:) The report won't be ready until a week on Friday !! So do I wait until I can see what the report shows up before I get my report done on our new property or just book it and have done with it ? I don't expect too much to come up on our report but now I'm nervous. I was cleaning the extension yesterday and my finger went through the beading. It didn't even look rotten and no other part of it is. Strange. So we had to get some more beading , chisel off the old and I was painting that at 8pm last night. Things don't half pick their time to go wrong.
We also popped to next on route to B&Q and whoops.. I spent some money on clothes , about £140, and a pair of shoes and a pair of peppa pig sandals for DD. We have a budget of £57 pm which we are £120 over now but Im hoping it will even itself out if not then I'll have to up it a little. I really needed some more but I definitely felt guilty buying them for myself.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Ohh congratulations on your wedding plans Iris
Like TPA said, have it your way and weddings really do cost only what you want to spend.
Hope the survey comes back all clearCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

I think I really need to get back on the surveys but I CBA at the moment. Tolunnna updated again overnight and I now have 38k so I haven't made the 2nd voucher this month but there's only myself to blame.
I spent most of last night , whilst OH was watching football , thinking about the wedding and looking at wedding cakes and toppers. I really don't think there is much choice for toppers as most of them are those squigdy looking people ones , I want something traditional and I do like this one : http://www.weddingaccessories.net/the-love-pinch-bridal-couple-figurine-3090 which is very me and only cheeky if you see the back of the couple. Its something that I would do myself.
I just wished it looked older looking and not so new. I've looked for vintage ones but the paint looks naff on them. Oh well plenty of time to look yet.
Plans for today, a NSD, I've not much planned as I'm tired today. I need to tidy the summerhouse and put the bulky rubbish items out for the council to collect from when we tidied out the loft last week. 8 bins bags of stuff that we had kept in the loft and are now throwing out. How daft is that! Why not just throw them in the first place.:oI can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
We did our wedding on a slim budget. I was 21 and we had already bought our first house so a lavish wedding wasn't a priority. We originally planned to book a hotel somewhere and get married but my DM didn't want that. We had our hearts set on getting married on our 2 year anniversary which was a weekday so we invited about 40 people to the day and the night was open invite. We planned it all in 7 weeks and i'm sure we only spent about £2000 with rings making up a lot of that (my rings are platinum). I bought a dress in the sale for £250 and it just needed some minor alterations, got all the flowers for about £70, a friend of my DM made the cake, used my mums car which was brand new. Reception was at new place DH was working at which had just opened so we didn't pay for the venue and i think we only paid £500 for the food for the whole day which was 2 buffets!
I don't think you need to spend a lot, the important thing to us is that 7 years on we are still happily married and not paying off wedding loans.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Thank was cheap Cath, you did well there. I want to save as much as possible and pay cash. We really need to get our head down. We looked at the venue last night and it looked so lovely at 6pm in the evening sunlight. The worse thing to pay for is the car that you wanted to hire for the day..a ferrari but he's now prepared to go for something not so lavish but still nice. With a 5k deposit he may change his mind yet.
I pottered about the garden yesterday and repotted plants and dug up things I want to take when we move including some bamboo - I love bamboo and the way it moves in the wind. That will save me buying some more.
We had to put some more diesel in the family car last night and the current budgets are way over. I really need to address this now. Currently we are on
Petrol Work car : £291 spent / £180 budget - £111 over
Diesel : £194 / £110 - £84 over
All I can say is OUCH! £195 over.
With going away in May and my, my sisters , my dads and DS 1,2,3 birthdays we may be a bit skint next month. Luckily I have budgeted for all these isn't it ! I'm making the birthday cakes and I've already got the birthday cards free courtesy of funky pige0n.
anyway up date tomorrow as mortgage payment of £601.83 has come out today. Edit: Just realised we are under 85k now! :j:j:jI can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Hi Iris
Just caught up on your diary - its all very exciting.
So, I just wanted to say - good luck with the house moving stuff - try to give yourself a treat now and then to ease the stress...
And many many congratulations on the wedding date being set! I waited 13 years for OH to propose and we had been together nearly 15 years when we got married.
My feeling is (and by the sound of it you are already doing this) don't let anyone pressure you, do what you want to - my Dad tried to make it very hard for me - its not that he didn't want me to get married - he was just not happy with any of my wedding choices apart from the groom...
I am totally in awe of the fact that you look after your family, are OP the mortgage, are moving house and getting married all at the same time. Wishing you the very best of luck with everything.Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016

Just catching up too
Many congrats on the upcoming nuptials!
I can't comment as OH & I spent a fortune as we had two weddings (one in the UK - low key and one big one in France over 3 days!!)
My only advice is : just do what YOU want, its your day! As long as you are happy, thats what matters!!

Thank you Misscousiniit - Its really lovely of you to say all that.
I've been getting emotional today at the thought of getting married..yes I know it's 2 years away! I am absolutely terrified of walking towards the wedding guests and wondering what to do with my face. Weird I know. Also the choice of wedding songs has started me off wailing already with the words and music.
Wow Froggy 2 weddings. A 3 day celebration sounds fabulous ! Wish I knew you back then!
I'm really looking forward to watching the royal wedding tomorrow. DH (2b:D) is working so just me and the children, (who will probably not watch it) I may even push the boat out a celebrate with a glass of wine. I'm looking forward to seeing Kates dress! I'm sure she will look stunning.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0
