Solicitors grrr don't get me started on them, you have to chase them daily, they charge the earth (i got billed £480 for a will amendment) and do very little.

:( Sob, what about us good ones....? sob

I'm sorry, did you say £480 for a will amendment OMG
solicitors - £2957.15 Not including another cost of £54.00 for a SDLT1 ??. This fee includes stamp duty of £1670

£54 for completing a form they have to do anyway - gosh - I'm always amazed at how many firms make their fees sound really good and then charge for every little thing so at the end you pay the same anyway as a flat fee.

Lots of luck with everything going quickly :) The fastest house purchase I ever saw was four days *faint* it was manic

    Well £456.00 to be exact.

Back in 2007 when I first created my will it cost £117.50, so i figured since there are three kids on the scene now I needed to update it. Thought maybe it would be less or the same.....

two hours work apparently at £190p/h!!! phoned and complained but they are sticking to their guns..... not a happy chappy I tell you!

No i certainly won't, seems they decided to let one of the partners do the amendment along with a change to how they administer their bills. More like a 300%+ price increase....

I won't be in a rush to pay the bill thats for sure.

Thanks . He did say we'll cross that bridge when we come to it...I don't know what he meant and should have asked. I was going to ask him to do it for free....I should have now shouldn't I ! When it comes up in conversation again I will. :D

I didn't know that they could do it in 4 days. Wow!

We've been to the EA and show our mortgage offer etc and we've been told that our surveyor has arranged to go around next Tuesday so we may hear off them by the Thursday. Fingers cross all is well and on the house we live in too. I'm nervous about that. Don't know why but I am. Only natural I suppose.

Didn't they tell you the price beforehand LP or just hit you with it?

You really do have to shop around for solicitors don't you. Most people haven't got the time to do so and they take advantage of that. Like every business I suppose.
I can't be bothered updating this anymore

Its very rare (once in 4 years) an average time scale is 4-6 weeks depending on course on lots of little things like the seller's filling out forms correctly, searches being done quickly by the council etc.

It sounds like you're in a good position Iris with the surveyor going out on Tues :)

that was the theory being thouse house buyers packs they made me fill in and pay, just to realise they didn't work and scrapped them!

    Iris:
They told me their rates had gone up but I was still only expecting one hours worth of work. The changes were:

    - address change
    - add the kids
    - change percentages on my company shares

Not a huge amount if you ask me

bl**dy government!!!! grrrr. One day we were getting shouted at by clients that the HIPs weren't done yesterday and the next (after the gov told everyone they were being scrapped) we were being screamed at because we'd ordered all the searches and couldn't get them a refund. I remember that being a fun week......

funny thing is that having the search and office copies in the pack was actually very useful and did speed things up, it was just everything else that was useless!

I do actually really like my job :) (legal sec)

*holds hand up* i was one of those annoying people who called my estate agents and solicitor at least once a day. Ended up with an excahnge on the day of the move! very stressful but only took a few weeks as there was no chain.

certainly not a fan of all the paperwork involved with a house move.
