You are absolutely brilliant. I do wish my 26 year old son was as sensible as you are.....am going to pay for broadband for him so he can go online, and needless to say I will be making sure he reads your thread! Having spoken with him this evening, a miracle has happened: he is budgeting very carefully all of a sudden, so maybe he will be as sensible as you are one day.

I would employ you any time if I had a business that is. You will do well young man. If you want inspiration read my thread "no idea what to do with £300k"! (This money was saved even though Mr B's wages are pathetic, and we recently had a bit of "luck".)

Good morning mw - and all your fingers-crossed wellwishers:-)

    No, post hasn't re-appeared, so shall re-write.

I didn't need to pm it as it was pretty much as follows:

'Spoke to R[solicitor], C at CAB and P at CRB[all known to me and trusted for impartial up-to-date advice]

It's as you've read from others. All cautions, at any level, do show. The footprint remains on a citizen's CR. Only upon request from an organisation, or for extended/advanced check, would the particulars of it be given.

Their strong advice is to be pro-active: you take the lead and phone your employer. Better still - call in and do it in person. Explain - as you have here. I think you need to emphasise that you have so turned your life around since you were that shadow of what you now are. it never even entered your head to mention it at the time of i/v.
Apart from this being a further point in your favour, you could save your employer time/annoyance, as CRB checks commonly take 6 weeks or more to come through. [I have had it for my voluntary work with OD, SOS bus, and National Trust.]

Any decision from this point on is the employer's and it is entirely discretionary.'

    ##########
I think that was pretty much it, mw.

Now, from my Grandma age to you, I say we can see how you are miserable and worrying, fretting over this - so bite that bullet and either pop in to make a quick appointment on your way home, or phone for one. If you felt an empathy with your interviewer/decision-maker, channel it now.

You must see that from employer's point of view, that fact that you front up, having realised what the CRB might mean, rather than hold back on sth now important, has to be the way to go. You have already gained one job since and you're still building a good good track record there - remember we celebrated your move from temp>contract? The overtime offers reinforce this development. Your chance hangs on this. Don't let it come across as you hanging back, just hoping that that old caution would somehow not show up.

We are all with you - now off you go. The reality will be less than the fear and waiting.

Hi MW! I've just read through an epic 15 pages of your thread and I have to say you are exactly the person to inspire me! You've been far better with money than I have, I wasted my 20's getting into debt and throwing money around. I'm now trying very hard to get all the debts paid off and then to start some sort of savings so it's posts like yours that keep me motivated.

Good luck with your job and everything else :) I'll be checking back to see how it's all going :D

I agree with Ampersand MW, I'm sure your interviewer will appreciate you being forthcoming with your CRB issue and they would rather you be open from the start rather than say nothing. This could even go in your favour. Everyone has a past, it's your chance to tell them that is exactly where the caution remains.

    All the best.

  • MrandMrsB - thank you for your compliments. I will be checking out your thread after this post and I hope this thread can help your son to move forwards with his finances :)

ampersand - my hat goes off to you. I am flattered that you have gone out of your way to ask your friends about my situation - and taken your time for my benefit. Your advice is superb. I'll give the main man a call in the morning and see what the outcome is.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I have my fingers and toes crossed ;)

money_honey - thank you. And don't worry, I am positive you will get out of debt and start saving as I have done. I was in debt to the tune of 14 thousand, had no job or car and lived with my parents. Now I have a job, possibly a better one in the pipeline, am on my second car since becoming debt free and live on my own. So if I can do that I'm sure you can too. Good luck, you're in the right place for advice/motivation :)

linz - thanks. I hope it goes ok, will update as soon as I get chance.

I'd like to apologise (if that's the right way to put it) for taking so long to reply to posts; I've been extremely busy lately with work/ sport/ chores etc, but I'll always get back to you, just maybe not straight away

All strength to you, mw and hoping that the employer is worthy enough of you to be as perceptive as we all wish.

It's in his - and the company's - interest, to thus gain an especially loyal, diligent, keen employee.

Never worry about posting delays - this is not a treadmill.

A year ago, you would not have been writing this: 'extremely busy lately with work/ sport/ chores etc,'...this is who I want that very lucky, discerning employer to congratulate himself on having on his payroll.

Further, the maturity of your advice to mh comes from one who is in a position to know and truly help/encourage others now. Oh, again I do wish that employer could read this Thread.

Good luck all day long, mw, mature wise man [and when The One comes along, as she will, there's a great Dad in waiting there, too.].
