Well done fruityfairy, I hope I can follow your lead and move forwards, starting with landing that job tomorrow :)

I saw in the newspaper today an advert for sky tv, with the sports channels and it said less than £40.00 pm, which I thought was quite good actually...what do you guys think? Can you get this deal cheaper elsewhere? I want the sports channels as I love watching football, esp. Leeds.

I will also be £30.00 better off in Oct. as my car insurance is due to drop (did an online check the other day) - so that will almost cover the sky tv, plus I have hurt my rib playing football, so may 'freeze' my swimming membership, thusly freeing up a further £33.00 pm.

Plus I've heard you can cancel sky tv at any time, so you are not tied into it. It's all sounding pretty good to me so far...

Well if you are thinking of doing some training, most colleges offer a scheme where you can pay monthly for the course fees, with no interest or admin charges added. I really would recommend it to anyone on a low wage. I thought I would be stuck in my old dead end job forever, especially given the current job market, but it just shows a little initiative and ambition goes a long way.

Have you considered selling on ebay? I have sold loads of unwanted stuff I had laying around the house, I have made £840 since April! No Alan Sugar but it adds up! I recently bought a dress in the Allsaints sale for £40 wore it a twice and then sold it on ebay where someone bidded £56 plus p&p, so I made a profit. That way I can afford a new outfit for every night out
  • long time no see, ice to see this thread is still up and running

whats your current soa these days?
  • I've been delaying replying in the hope that I would have landed that job and have some good news to share, but sadly I haven't heard from them. Anyway, my ISA balance is up and I've now got £1,005.93. So getting closer to my end of year target.

I had a friend round on Saturday night before we went out and he was telling me how he still lives with his parents, is 28yr old and is in debt. Plus he is self employed so doesn't know if he is going to have work from one week to the next. So to hear that made me think that my situation is not so bad. I feel almost ashamed to say that I live in a bed sit, but on reflection, I am thinking it is admirable to have paid off a lot of debt and set out on my own two feet...

Was looking at flats to rent (1 bedroom) but it just isn't an option for me on the wage I earn. I would need to either earn more cash or share with someone, but I don't want to share. Not ideally. But at the moment it's a case of having to. And keeping pushing forwards with the savings in the hope that things may change for the better in the future.

On the girl front, I keep seeing this very nice looking young lady walking past my place, but not sure if she has a bf or not, nor do I know what to do about it....would feel stupid stopping her to ask her something rediculous.

Not sure if I mentioned earlier but I ended up getting Sky and am loving it! Especially looking forward to watching mighty Leeds v Man U in the cup!!! Come on Leeds :)
    Total in ISAs = £8,863.50
  • I've been considering a bedsit as well, but even a bedsit is kinda pricey it seems. A one bed flat, the prices in my area seem to be around £500 a month at the lowest, MUCH too high for me.

Good luck with the job news, hope they call back
  • A lot of bedsits rents are inclusive of all bills, so you just need to find the cash for food and anything else you need to pay, but I am the same as you when it comes to the renting of a flat -it's just too expensive.

My god NEVER EVER feel ashamed of your circumstances. You are doing really well and trying hard. In real life I would be proud if you were one of my mates.

Re the girl: I've recently turned 40 and was in a particularly reflective mood tonight...thinking of opportunities in my past that I was too scared to go for. I sometimes think the worst regrets are the things we didn't do rather than the things we did. Just bloody do it. Be honest, be a bit cheeky.... What's the worst? - she's not available but you've paid her a massive compliment

I hate football but my BF is a massive Leeds fan and he is going to be unbearable that day...so yes I have to agree 'come on Leeds!'....please

Enjoy your Sky, but don't stay in too much as you wont meet people infront of your TV ;-) My 3 boys (4 if you cound DAD) have now signed up for ESPN to watch American sport too- they are sport mad.

I agree, introduce yourself to the girl. What's the worst that could happen (if you are polite)? I suppose she could have a hulking BF who comes round to scare you off lol.

Great news at saving over 1K!!! And sorry you haven't heard about the job, but keep up trying for new opportunities.

well done moneywaster and keep it going.
enjoy your sky, make the most of it but definatly go out and budget for going out.
id definatly agree with introducing yourself to the girl? you never know until you try and you could end up kicking yourself for not trying.
im not doing very well on the saving front, but am aiming to work things out and try. mainly as i was doing so much overtime i could save but now im down to basic wages it taking a bit to get my head around.

Hello mw - how are things?

  • Hi ampersand, sorry I've not done an update in a while. I'm still not smoking, still working hard and still on track to hit my 1.5k target by Christmas.

Got my free £100 from Santander paid into my current account the other week and that went straight into the ISA as soon as I realised it was there.

So, I'm up to £1,237.18.

The car is still going ok - touch wood. Managed to reduce my insurance by £30 pm using Moneysupermarket.com :D

Signed up for a nectar card and got 72 points so far - it seems to take a rediculous amount of spending to get anything in return - not so sure about it, but it's free to do so can't do any harm.

Have applied for funding to do an Open University degree, which if accepted, I will be starting in January, with the end goal of a higher salary being of great interest to me :)

Anyway must dash, got 2 games of six a side footy to play tonight and the weather is !!!!!. Hope everyone else is doing ok.

    Chow for now, Money.
