Something like, Control Panel, Windows Defender, Tools, Options, Real-time Protection, then untick 'use real-time protection'.

There are some Services that we can change to Manual, but I won't bother with those for now.

It's certainly running much better - not nearly as dire as it was but I think it could still do with a bit more help - is next step buying some memory? (Got a refund for the 4GB - no problem).

Where's the what??

Can I just ask before I do these - what do they all do? Are they going to affect the running of the programs they're associated with or will it not make any difference to them? (Facebook photo uploader, Panasonic, Sony and Media Player in particular).

Hi Margaret? I am just letting you know that I will close down this post now, so assume you are finished now and hope you got your pc all sorted out. Mine is now any ways, they give good advice on here and even give you links to stuff which is good.
