I had 1gb installed today, but how do I check this on the system? I tried going to alt-ct-del and then props on my pc but its all these long numbers really and cant work it out? I guess I expected it to just say 1GB?

    it should tell you if you right click computer icon and click properties, or click system in control panel,

    alternatively press f2 or something similar to get in bios and look in there.

    Control panel > system

    look under the General tab close to the bottom, should say "xx GB of RAM"

    It states 1.50gb of Ram

    you probably have 1.5 GB of RAM installed then

    -perhaps had 0.5 GB originally and had 1GB added...

    That would give 1.50gb.

    Well today we paid to have 1GB installed. before that, his computer was 512mb.

    I am trying to get to understand all this stuff. I was trying to work it all out but wasnt sure how as when I looked it said 1.50 GB of RAM..

    1024MB + 512MB is what you have installed. Don't ask. :)

    Short answer:

    Giga = 1,000,000,000
    Mega = 1,000,000

    That makes 1 G = 1,000 M*

    That's the good thing with SI units. It's so easy to convert into another. I don't understand the obsession of British people with their imperial units... ;)

    Funny story: A few years ago I was asked to measure the hight of our office and I told our secretary that it was 2.53m or whatever it was. She then seriously asked me how many cm these are ;)

    *(Some people use 1024 (2^10) as basis. Then it would be 1 G = 1024 M)
