I'm sure Crucial said 4GB max, so she went ahead and bought the maximum. I guess she cancel without opening the package, if necessary.0

You did WHAT?
Make and model of your PC if you please?
Hope it works out for you Margaret, Crucial are usually ok !

HiYa Donnie
Yeh, only in the remote Janet & John books way :
- O/P reads
- tells us
- we tell the O/P
However its a bit late now, I know we both hope it works out for her, perhaps Margaret Clark will come back and let us know the final outcome.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I suppose if you look at it that way. It would have looked more complicated, so at least she would have asked before taking the plunge.
As long as it works and she is happy. Perhaps she was feeling flush.
However, I don't think it's too late, as long as she doesn't open the package.0 -
Ok let's step into my shoes just for a sec.
I'm trying to run a house, child, dog, 2 cats and full-time job totally on my own and have been battling with a bit of ill-health thrown into the mix recently. I've just spent 4 long frustrating months trying to sort out my internet connection amongst many other things and my desktop pc's performance has been something I've needed to do something about for quite a while. Other things were more important though.
However in the course of getting advice about numerous other stuff I have been reading posts about slow performance as well and trying various things. I came to the conclusion after doing that that I probably needed to upgrade the memory.
Think about something you're not comfortable doing and have limited knowledge of but need to do in order to get something you want - that's what it's like for me and many other folk on here.
I do appreciate the advice you guys give honestly but to say "You did WHAT??" is neither helpful or constructive. Yes I could have come on here to ask first before I bought the RAM but jesus if I did that with absolutely everything I know very little about I'd get nothing done!
Crucial said my Acer Aspire M1610 Desktop/PC had 1GB of current memory and the suggested upgrade was 4GB. I'm thinking what? 1+4 is not 4! Then I read further and found that Windows won't recognise the full 4GB depending on which version I had - it will only utilise 3GB or 3.5GB so I could then see why they had suggested that. Because it was telling me it was compatible for my pc I thought it was ok to go ahead with it and I've certainly read other posts on here from folk who have used crucial, done the same and not had any problems.
So come on then - explain to me the boob I made but please try to do it nicely - we're not all experts on here as I'm sure you very well know :beer:Marg0 -
The boob that you made is that you did not ask for advice before splashing out. A single 1GB RAM module could have been adequate, but we don't know the full spec of your machine, in order to advise more accurately.
In addition there could be other factors contributing to the slowdown of your machine.
We are not interested in trying to make you feel bad. We are interested in saving you money.
Download, install and run CCleaner Report the specifications as written at the top of the interface of the program.0 -

Thing is, whilst your computer will (presumably) allow 4Gb, your not going to see much (if any) difference over 2Gb (or even less, dependant on operating system and software used)
But sure, respect for giving it a go (Id just advise you ask for advice next time though, before buying something willy nilly):idea:0 -

I saw the discussion with Margaret on my threat thingy, this pic here I find interesting, I did download the thing and everything.
Some of it I can get and some I cant. All these figures etc shown on this example, Can anyone explain what all this means please? Thanks I think I can get the hang of part of it. But I can see why Margaret is confused with it, as it can be a bit confusing. Luckily I had my 1GB installed and I paid a shop man to do this of which my friend knows as he knows more about this then I do. If I asked him for more he would have told me there and then whether it would work or not which is good.
Anyway I am getting off my original question here?
I mean on the Timings Table part I find a bit confusing, thanks!0 -

Maybe I could have a quick lesson on those? LOL.0
