  • Thanks Ladywriter - I did get a pc person out to look at it when I had internet connection problems because TalkTalk said it was my computer that was causing the problem (they lied) and he did some basic checks. We discussed the slow performance and he said he'd get back to me with details of memory etc. but he never did unfortunately. By then there was bigger fish to fry so to speak so I had to leave it.

Everything seems so complicated nowadays doesn't it ...... :)

So the pc person that came out let you down basically. Thats a great start really. They dont deserve to be in business if thats how they carry on really.

There are pc shops you can take it to, if you can get it down there some how. My pc is still sick and he said he having trouble at the moment with it, Was hoping it would be done today so could pick it up but no. I knew though cause when it was here it ran so flaming slow that I just felt like chucking it thro the window to be honest.

Thing is, my Dad had a new pace maker put in the other week and he was a day case and even had his stitches out now, yet my PC been at pc hospital for 7 days so far. LOL.

Also you say that Talk Talk I assume is your provider said its your pc, they always say that, aol said before when I had trouble it was my pc alas not net connection, but they are liars cause it turned out it was at their end that the connection had gone down for the day, so I nearly ended up reinstalled stuff again for nothing. So when your provider say its your pc,

Ask yourself this question? How do they know its your pc? Have they actually seen your pc to be able to made a judgement like that? Nope! Its a bit like a doctor telling a patient what is wrong with them internally without giving them any examination or Xrays etc, if you know what I mean. I dont know obviously whether is it your pc or your provider that was the problem. But sometimes when you ask these providers for help they dont give it. Once I had to get my relative down to fix aol for me cause the stupid guy on the phone gave me the wrong instructions. And its their company.

Totally agree - I should have done that. Was just frustration at taking so long to get things sorted - I think TalkTalk has contributed to that in the last few months Bigtime! :rotfl:

2 GB RAM is enough for your machine. Your OS(Vista Home Premium) needs updating as you are still on Vista SP1.

The most important thing is to save all of your important info elsewhere. Then you can run a Factory Install as closed has suggested.

That, together with 2 GB of RAM in total will have your PC running smoothly.

I'm assuming that you bought your PC from the PC World group. That together with signing up to TalkTalk..... recipe for disaster.

We'll have to sort it all out for you.

How much did you pay for the RAM? Don't open the package. Perhaps you can send it back.

Ok thanks Donnie - I would imagine it could be returned with no problem - especially if I'm just exchanging it - I'll contact critical and ask them. It was £65 something or other for the 4GB (at work so can't check).

Bought the pc from ASDA - even worse!! But I have to say even just running Ccleaner has made a bit of a difference straight away so that's cheered me up!

I'll need some help with closed's suggestion - need it broken down a bit further cos most of it is too technical for me as it stands at the moment but I'll wait until I have time to work on it then will get you to talk me through what needs to be done and where I'm stuck if that's ok?

That's exactly what I told TalkTalk when they said that to me but they weren't having any so I thought if I could get someone professional in to check it then I could tell them for sure. It's one of their standard 'get-out' clauses when they don't know what's wrong. Thankfully not with them any longer!

Can't lift pc to a shop but would rather get someone out to look at it where it is anyway so that they can check connections, cables, location etc. - however pc itself is fine - just needs fine tuning I think and I'm a bit clueless as to how to go about it properly!

No, ASDA is not worse. ;)

Do you have any Data(documents/pictures/video etc) that you wish to save?
A Factory Restore will erase everything and return the machine to it's original unencumbered state.
The extra 1GB of RAM added at this stage will enable it to run even better than it did when you first purchased the machine.

Ah a small redemption then! :D

Yeah loads of stuff - what's the best way to back everything up? I'm a bit freaked out by the thought of going back to the original state to be honest - I remember doing that years ago and not realising I would lose display settings and favourites and stuff like that. Is there anywhere that tells you exactly what is affected or is it just everything?

If you don't want to do that, you don't have to do so.

We can just do a clean up instead.

Maybe start with a couple of Malware scans if you haven't done so already.

Download, install, update and run a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes' AntiMalware. When complete, choose 'Remove Selected' if there is anything to remove and Reboot your computer.

After restart, open the program again and go to 'Logs'. Double click on the log produced for today and post the contents here.

Once you've done that, Download, install and run a scan with Hitman Pro 3

Next, download, install and run the HijackThis Version 2.0.3 installer and use the Quick Start guide to enable you to produce a log for posting here too.

    Oh.
    Posted log last night.
    Well thought I did.
Suspect there may have been a 'preview' and not a 'submit' situation going on ....... :D

Here we go again then. Second part about to happen now.

Ah. See what's happened now - text is too long to post. Have pasted the top part in case that's any help and will carry on with the rest of it in the meantime.
