I felt so sorry for him. Some fantastic cakes, even the average ones looked great.0 -
I watched this morning on i-player and thoroughly enjoyed it. There's another "Mrs Cool" on this year - Holly I think her name is who seems to have time to spare at the end and produces perfect cakes! I did feel sorry for the man whose cake fell on the floor, and was so pleased he wasn't penalised for it.
The Battenburg looked quite interesting - I've only ever seen the pink and yellow one before. I don't like Battenburg though because I can't stand marzipan. It struck me though that you could use fondant icing round the outside instead of the marzipan. I'm sure that would make it edible. I might have a go.0 -
I watched it last night and really enjoyed it.I still have last year's series recorded and sometimes watch one.Quite educational for a novice baker.
I must admit that I've never heard of coffee and walnut Battenberg....I'd love to make a Battenberg cake one day.
Really looking forward to watching the rest of the programmes over the coming weeks.
What a shame for the man whose cake ended up on the floor.
The book sounds interesting, but I don't know if I can justify buying another baking book.Famous last words...0 -
Really enjoyed this last night in fact the whole family watched it including OH. I love baking but my efforts are no where near as good as theirs. I bake to de stress so would hate to be put under that sort of pressure when baking. Some of those cup cakes looked divine. Not sure about putting guinnes in them thoughI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order

Definitely think this book is worth the money - although I picked it up in Sainsbury's and used Nectar points to pay for most of it! It is £10 in there, I think - about the usual price for most places I have seen it.
Have made the Victoria Sponge out of it, and followed the instructions carefully - and was rewarded by the OH saying it was one of the best I've ever made, and it didn't go dry. I will be doing other stuff out of the book soon, so it will be one to keep hold of.December GC: £3500 -
Just in case anyone is interested last year's winner has brought out a book http://theboywhobakes.co.uk/0

Is anyone on here going to apply for series 3 then?!
I know I'm not - I'd be a quivering jelly in the first challenge.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I do hope they keep the same format next year and don't 'jazz' it up.0 -
My son loves this programme and is trying to persuade me to enter!! No chance!
I thought she was a worthy winner last night - her final show stopper was amazing!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
