I agree with you about her not taking the criticism very well - sometimes I thought she was a bit cheeky.0

Andygb, really not envious at all. Brendan is a wonderful baker. I just think he had started to think he was going to win. Didn't mean to offend anyone just a tongue in cheek remark
Wow though this was a light hearted discussion.
For me this programme is all about fun and relaxation that's why it's so popular. I love the fact that even great bakers can sometimes get things wrong, makes us all feel better about our baking disasters.
But I also love it when they produce something spectacular.Started Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.
Working hard to get rid of our debt.0 -
Have to agree that it was right for Cathryn to go. Loved James' barn and Brendan's bird house. I really don't know who will win but Brendan is my favourite.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

What a shock last night.I was fully expecting Brendan to win, even though I didn't want him to.
It's a shame that James ended up making 5 cakes in the last challenge instead of the one and Paul said they were dry I think, plus the pistachio flavour was poor.Looks like he spread himself too thin.He also had a soggy bottom in the first or second challenge.
Well done to John!He must be thrilled.

Glued to it :rotfl:
I was so pleased for John. I got the feeling sometimes that he lacked self-belief, so I hope this win has shown him what he's capable of.
James as always didn't get flustered - he'll make a good doctorI was horrified when his cake fell on the floor! I do think he was a bit over-ambitious there though.
I thought the camera stayed on Brendan a bit too long when he was getting emotional - obviously something in his past which still hurtsI felt like an intruder there I must admit.
All of them did very well to get to the final so here's a :T:T:T for them all0 -
I think John is a much better baker than he came across on the show, but I think the nerves got to the better of him. The final was a much better representation of how good he really is. Good on him, I wish him luck for the future.
Thought all the contestants were lovely folk though and very supportive of each other, what a breath of fresh air.0 -
Isn't it good to see competitors not back-biteing but being helpful to each other.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

would have been happy with any of the three winning, Brendan maybe a bit safe although always does a neat job, James I loved for inventiveness but pushed too far, John being middle of the road won the price and how I could have eaten that chocolate cake.
Nice to see the credits at the end how well they are all doing.:j0 -

Yes,he certainly came across as having little self belief in his abilities.I hope that he manages to follow his dream.0 -
Paukl and Mary were at the SECC yesterday at the Good Food Show. They were doing individual demonstrations in the Love Food Hate Waste Kitchen and signing Books. (See my separate post).:j
Paul bought James (from the final up on the stage) and revealed a few show secrets. Apparently, Paul and Mary had not heard the interviews at the end of the final, when the 3 finalists were talking about their performance. Paul said when he heard Brendan say he deserved a 10, he spat his beer out all over the tv.
James seemed to have accepted that he had not done enough to win and agreed that overall (throughout the whole series) that John had shown extra flare, imagination and had strived for perfection. I agree.
The GBB is on 4 nights next week. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday night at 7pm, Paul and Mary are showing the technical challenges and how they should be done. Tuesday night is catch up with the bakers in Series 2.
If you are interested in entering the 2013 GBB entries are now being taken. They also hinted on the strong likelihood of a Junior GBB next year as well. Roll on 2013, I sayMSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0
