Thanks for treacle info Justamum. Very interesting stuff.
I made a another batch of bagels. Definately improving each time :rotfl:
Glad the bagels are improving.Whose recipe do you use?
I do like the first book, but looking through it,think I've only tried two recipes-macaroons and scripture cake!:o
I could bake a different recipe every day for the next 10 years and maybe get through all my mostly baking books!:o
No more buying of baking books for me!
I don't know if I've ever eaten treacle tart-I would like to make one now!0 -

I think I followed a Good Food recipe. I have the mags going back about 10 yearsso I tend to look online and then look at the actual mag. I'm weird that way lol.
I tried some chocolate biscuits from Marian Keyes' book. With added treacle. Very nice. Think I will try another couple of things, but I wont be buying the book, just returning it to the library.
I've got a vast amount of dessicated coconut to use up. Might make some macaroons. Never actually tried them before.
I also want to make treacle tart!
What are they making next week? I've forgotten already.0 -
Next week is puddings. Creme brule and meringues were mentioned.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

How did it go?
Went for standard white bread. It's very crusty but I do like crusty bread, and I thought it tasted ok, OH said it tastes nice too. I split the dough to make rolls, they ended up all different sizes and a bit misshapen, should have divided more evenly but I couldn't be bothered weighing etc. The 2 I tried to make into knot rolls looked prettier, have no idea if they are the "right" shape but they look like knots to me! Next time I might do it as a loaf and put a dish of water in so the crust is a little less hard.
Also I should have glazed the top with something so it looks nice like breads you see about. What does one use for this, is it milk? In all I won't be making all our bread by far as I haven't time, but I'll definitely do it again, and try other breads too. I especially fancy trying making focaccia.0 -

Last year was a very high standard. I didn't know it had started again so I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that.
ETA I've just checked and realised it's last year's again, so I won't spoil it for you by telling you who won (I've just had to edit my post to remove any clues)
I hope they have another series this year.0
