Went for standard white bread. It's very crusty but I do like crusty bread, and I thought it tasted ok, OH said it tastes nice too. I split the dough to make rolls, they ended up all different sizes and a bit misshapen, should have divided more evenly but I couldn't be bothered weighing etc :o. The 2 I tried to make into knot rolls looked prettier, have no idea if they are the "right" shape but they look like knots to me! Next time I might do it as a loaf and put a dish of water in so the crust is a little less hard.

Also I should have glazed the top with something so it looks nice like breads you see about. What does one use for this, is it milk? In all I won't be making all our bread by far as I haven't time, but I'll definitely do it again, and try other breads too. I especially fancy trying making focaccia.

    Sounds good!

I'm not completely sure about glazing, but I know that you can use a beaten egg.

Last year was a very high standard. I didn't know it had started again so I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that.

ETA I've just checked and realised it's last year's again, so I won't spoil it for you by telling you who won (I've just had to edit my post to remove any clues :o)

I hope they have another series this year.

Is it a repeat? I had no idea :rotfl: I didn't catch last series so enjoying it all the same. Avoiding this thread now then, I don't wanna know who wins
  • I think they made the right decision this week. And I thought the star baker was spot on, but they were mean saying the cake was really 70s. I thought all three bakes were fab!

I really do agree with you, there was no way that was 1970's inspired. To me all three cakes were beautifully done - well done Brendan.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I'm a bit behind and only just caught up. I think Brendan will be the winner. None of the others have been consistent enough.

I've now got all three books :p:o I love my cook books lol

Loved it tonight, and so pleased James won star baker. Sad to see Katherine go, but TBH she just isn't up to the very high standard now. I think Brendan badly misjudged the gingerbread task - he went for twee perfection but Paul wanted the actual structure to be the task, not just a house however cutesy it might have been.
