I have made bagels once before.I didn't get them quite right, but they were edible though!:o Plus a bit tricky to make in a tiny kitchen. It'd be nice to try them again though.
First attempt was a disaster  I read the recipe wrong and didnt put enough water in. I just shoved everything in the bm. Second attempt looks much better in the bm, although its got another 45 mins or so to go. I also have a tiny kitchen lol.0 -
Second attempt at bagels was slightly better lol. They are small, but tasty. My next lot will be better

They do seem a bit tricky to make.Mine were more roll textured than bagel textured.:mad:0

Texture was fine, but they were far too small and VERY mis-shapen (sp?). I think its something that I'll get better at with practise

Was it a case of making them too small?Did they rise?
Mine were also a bit mis-shapen and a bit flat.I think that I used Nigella's recipe,from 'How To Be...'.0 -

A combination of a few things, I think. I didnt read the recipe through thoroughly. So I took the dough out of the bm and divided it up. I thought 8 pieces looked too big so divided them again. I then stuck them straight in to simmer, rather than leaving them for 20 mins. They didnt really rise.
I used a Good Food recipe and cross referenced Nigella and Rachel Allan. Maybe I just should have read one recipe and read it properly!!!0 -

Ah yes,they wouldn't rise once they'd been poached,I don't think.
There's a bagel recipe in the second 'Great British Bake Off' book that I might try this time.I've got that and the book that came out with the first series.I'm definitely not getting the book that goes with this series.0 -

There's a second book??? How did I not know this!! I need to do a bit more research on Amazon, clearly lol.
I've got the first book beside me. I was planning on doing a bit of baking today but looking for some inspiration.0 -
