Well, Victoria (I think thats her name) who is a CEO of a charity won the judges best last night so I wonder if she may be the one who they think is striding out. Have to say though that the Vicar's wife (sorry don't remember her name) she did really well with a couple of hers.

Once their nerves settle down and they forget about the cameras panning around they should all be upping their game.

Mind you, I did spot someone with an Emma Bridgewater glass comport last night as well and they are quite expensive so they clearly have to bring their own display plates/stands etc to the show!

I always thought Emma Bridgewater sort of sponsored it as I've always seen the products on each series:think:

I've merged all of the 'Great British Bake Off threads to keep the replies together.

you had me really confused there :naughty:

I went back to start reading from page 1 & couldn't make head nor tail of who & what everyone was talking about, it didn't seem to have anything to do with the programme I'd watched

it was only when I saw posts of my own that I'd no (recent) recollection of :o that it dawned on me the start of the thread's about 2011's GBBO :rotfl:

I love it. Currently trying to keep myself of Amazon as the book is on offer, had 2 new cook books delivered from the book people yesterday (one of them Paul Hollywood). Most of the cakes looked really good but to be honest the odd one was shocking. Im probably biased because i don't like tomatos but the tomato topped topped cake looked shocking and the lady that was sent home last night I was shouting at the telly 'don't put the rum babas in a bain marie'.

Mind you with Paul and Mary watching over I think even some of the most confident home bakers would struggle, I think I would. The kids love it as well, last year it was repeated on a Sunday morning, Hope they do it again this year.

Weren't the roses on here signature bake amazing though, shame about the inside but it did make us laugh, particularly given she had made it worse by squashing it all down with a frying pan before she decorated it. I was sad to see her go, especially when she cried and thought the tomato cake/queens head boy should have gone, I think they were the same one!

Paul Hollywood just seems nasty for the sake of it now, I know its a bit good cop/bad cop but I think he takes it to far and it s not nice.

I love, love, love GBBO though :D

I hope that the man from the Shetlands does well. The CEO,the vicar's wife and the nervous, young Mum seem good.

Most of those showstopper cakes were amazing - my favourite was the 4 and 20 blackbirds cakepie though.

Tomatoes on a cake was a bit odd, but in one of the Little House on the Prairie books a special treat for pudding was sliced tomatoes with sugar and cream. Sounds yuck because they're not really a sweet fruit.

I don't know Badger, they have the odd jug of hers about on display but I have never seen allot of her items per se throughout. I had a feeling that last year they brought in their own display props (cake stands/plates etc) but I may also be wrong on that! Having said that Neff supply the ovens to them!

Can you remember which one it was?I think it might be one of the later books.

I've got a book called 'The Little House Cookbook' by Barbara M. Walker describing a lot of the recipes found in her books. It's a very interesting read. One of them is Ripe Tomatoes with Sugar and Cream.Apparently at the time, tomatoes were more tart and needed sugar.

I'll have a check. It might even have been Farmer Boy (the one about her husband) but I can't swear to that.
