What a lovely turn of phrase you have there, matty_yorks.
And do you expect Ryanair not to operate at a profit?
I don't think anyone has ever said on here that Ryanair are not maximising their profit.0 -
I took the same case from Poundstretcher to limoges, I went to the airport beforehand and tried it in the cage, it fitted perfectly, I asked Ryanair personell to check it and she said it was ok It doesn't come over the top it was just below plenty of room width wise and deep as I didn't pack it extended
It was measured at both LBA and Limoges both ways and it was passed as ok.
People who had cases with smaller dimensions and filled them full discovered they were the ones turned down as they were to deep to go into the cage.0 -
If you are handy at DIY a tip would be to remove the solid bar that holds the wheels in place, this can be done by sawing off the exposed end with a junior hacksaw.
Buy a nut and bolt similar in size to the removed bar and when getting off the plane simply re attach the wheels.
2 nuts on each bolt would prevent the nuts from working loose or wrapping the threads with PTFE tape( 20p a roll) would do the same thing.
It seems a shame to buy another case if you have one already.
Just thought, do you think I should go on Dragons den? I could offer a wheel conversion service at all major airports ( just like the clowns with the cling film machines). Think I will call it " just in case". If I charged a fiver and did 1000 case a day I would be well rich!
I'm in LOL
I'll offer you all the money for a 75% share

Well I think thats a ridiculous idea.I can see no use for it in my health clubs so I wont be investing - Im out. Almost as stupid as Vodka in a sachet.0 -
I dont know Drunken Duncan, I think this is the type of thing Mrs Patheticas could use. She's always going off her trolly. Removing the wheels may just be the answer.
BTW I think youve had 1 or 2 many satchets already Drunken.
Bestyman, Im going to give you the full tenner you are needing to buy a hacksaw + spanner to get this business going, but Im going to want at least 99.5% of the business in return.0 -
I've been on four ryanair flights this year (all to Italy) and they have never checked hand luggage size/weight, and I see people taking huge suitcases on all of them. However, on the last one the plane was delayed, so the staff wanted to get people on board and ready to go as fast as possible. As long as you're not being ridiculous, a few cms each way should not attract much attention. Remember that they need to have a fast turnaround, and I doubt they are going to bother move around one case for the sake of a few cms, and as a result delay their plane by 10-15 minutes.
Having said that on the way to Italy, one man was being stopped as he had a laptop bag, a rucksack and a smaller reusable shopping bag. Just put everything into one bag at security/getting on the plane and you can take stuff out afterwards.0 -
trouble with the wheel idea is you couldn't patent it, and manufacturers would just add it as a design feature - removable wheels on suitcases.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Mrs Paphitis(or whatever) doesn't travel on Ryanair, and neither does the inheritance for his kids.0 -
They will not stop you from boarding but they will charge you to put the oversized luggage into the hold. Or they will give you the option to leave the bag or buy a smaller one in the airport.0
