Thanks for your replies. I spoke to Tesco as I couldn't find the bit if it says if I would still be covered or not. He said I still have cover but Im not fully comp until I get the vic check and mot done. He advised me to call the dvla too.
yeah thats common, you will only be third party only till you get the vic doneSealed pot challenger # 10

Cool, well that's one less worry. My friend reckons I will not be able to drive and will get stopped by the police as my MOT will be void, he says once your car is a write off, I am not allowed to drive. I hope his wrong.0

an MOT once issued cant be revoked. i was stopped when my car was written off.. i didnt get the vic check done as i was only intending to use till the tax and test ran out any way..
i used my mot that i had before the car was written off and they never said a word..Sealed pot challenger # 10

You need the vic check to get the V5C back.

That's the legal requirement.
To get insurance, the car must be "roadworthy", and that's a whole world of variations.
Bare minimum is you saying "yes", others, as Tesco's have said want a new MOT, others insist on a full engineers report.
So I'd get the car back, sort out a new MOT, if it passes, sort out the vic check, and have a years motoring. If it fails the MOT, decide whether or not to fix it, or scrap it.
You could even drive it in on the old MOT.0 -

Thanks for letting me know. Did they stop you due to not having a vic done? I tried to explain to my friend what you said but he is adamant I will get pulled by the police. Im getting confused now, so as long as the MOT is valid, I will be ok to drive the car. But I have been told I need to get a new MOT done, so I loose out on one months MOT. I will have to ring enterprise tomorrow and find out how long I can keep the car. Sorry to sound dumb but I phoned the DVLA and the guy said I had to contact Vosa but they are closed now. I checked their website and there is not many places in London. I found this one, could you please tell me if this is where I have to go? I take it this is where they do the vic check.

I bet they will be booked up for weeks. So once I get the MOT done, then I will have to take my car down to Mitcham. Do I get to wait while they look or will it have to stay in. Im worried if they turn round and say its not road worthy, I will not be able to get back home on time to pick my son up. I think I am confusing myself as I thought the MOT was the one that decides if your cars road worthy or not lol. Sorry to be a pain. I am a woman, so the reason not understanding these things. I will be an expert when all this is done and dusted.0 -

Thanks, I will read the link, then I am sure I will understand things more. I have to stop listening to my friend. I get the car back on Monday, so will get some gaffa tape and see if I can book it in for an mot. There are a few near me. Is the V5C the car document? DVLA told me once I had the vic check done, I would have to post a copy of the pass certificate and send in a V62 form. Fingers crossed it will pass.0 -
yeah the v5 is commonly known as the log book.. no i was stopped for a random check.. pnc said nothing about expired mot/voided mot or a vic check.. everything came back fine ( please note this was 3 years ago nearly)Sealed pot challenger # 10

The new MOT isn't a legal requirement. It's your insurer's requirement before they will extend your third party cover to fully comp.
If you only have a month till renewal anyway, you won't lose a month, as the new one will be dated from the date of the test to expire 12 months after your original expiry date on your current (11 month old) certificate.0 -
Thank you to you both, Im going to have a good read about the MOT thread. Hopefully that will help me withthings before I take the car in for the mot.0

There is no need to get a new MOT although as your old one runs out soon it’s a good idea. As long as there is less than a month left on the old one the new one will expire a year after the old one did so you won’t lose any MOT.
The big problem you are going to have is you won’t be able to re-tax it until you get the VIC done for which there is often a 6 or 8 week waiting list. I’d ring some of the local VIC centres in the morning and if they have a waiting list get down the post office and re-tax it as hopefully the VIC marker won’t be on the system yet.……I will have to ring enterprise tomorrow and find out how long I can keep the car. ….
Traditional is you get a week to find a new car after you have been paid, it’ll only complicate matters if you ring them, just give it back when you like and/or they will be in touch when they want it back……So once I get the MOT done, then I will have to take my car down to Mitcham. Do I get to wait while they look or will it have to stay in. Im worried if they turn round and say its not road worthy, I will not be able to get back home on time to pick my son up. you don’t have to leave the car there for the VIC and they only check identity not roadworthyness or the repair (if you’ve done it)0
