I always read the last part of that URL as Evil Portal App.

Seems appropriate, since it's about road tax.

Good news at last lol. I took the car for the MOT and its passed. :) I couldn't be happier. I took copies of the MOT certificate and posted one off to Tesco. The garage said I should need a vic check done as its a cat c write off. I did tell him what the last guy I spoke to from Tesco said, he said my car should of a cat d write off, in which case the car would not need a vic check.

As you already know, the standard of verbal communication from insurance cs departments is variable, and can't be relied on, so ask them to confirm in writing what category write off they have done, as well as confirming that your comprehensive cover has been reinstated.

A cat D write off does not need a VIC.

I don't think the staff know what to say to me anymore. I have phoned them again to ask for a letter in writing confirming the cat write off plus whether I need a vic check or not. First girl spoke to her supervisor and then told me I did not need the vic check. She said she could not confirm this in writing then she cut me off. So I phoned back again and spoke to another person, who said I would need a vic check then I told her what the others told me and asked to speak to a supervisor. He told me providing I had a valid mot, I would not need the vic check done. I explained that if a car is cat c, a vic check is needed but he said it was not compulsory. Arrgghh. I give up with them. He said he would speak to the engineer and see if the cat c could be changed to d and would let me know tomorrow. He also said I am fine to drive and he would send a letter once he knows.

You do need to get the category write off they have done in writing from them. Then if they have actually said "D" yet you find a DVLA VIC marker you can take it up withn them.

Thanks Quentin, hopefully I will find out tomorrow. So am I ok to drive my car? I mean if I do need to get the vic check done, am I ok to drive until I get the letter as I do not want to get stopped by the police.

If needed you just have to get it done to retax your car.

The car is legal now - as long as you are happy you have insurance cover.

Thank you, yes I am happy to have my car back although it was very odd and weird driving it after the hire car. The vauxhall corsa was so nice and smooth to drive, my car feels strange now. Once Tesco recieve my MOT, then they will change the cover to fully comp, so happy days. Thank you Quentin, vaio and all the other lovely MSE users who have helped me get through this and thank you for teaching me a lot about cars and insurance. Hopefully there will not be a next time but should there be, then I will deal with the TP insurance directly.
