no cat c isnt bad at all on a older car.. it just means the cost of repair is more than the value of the car.

if the boot opens and shuts then the panal will be fine being left alone. Mot first then you can drive to the VIC check so long as you are insured ion the car at the time..

ring your insurer and see what there posistion in re the policy and weather they will re insure the write off.. some wont.. you could pick up a bumper from a breakers yard for anything from 10er to 50.
got to wiegh up the options tho.. depends on what it may fail on at the MOT, it may not be worth while repairing the car.

Hi mikey72, thanks for replying. The engineer from tesco said I would need to get the car repaired. Because the panel behind the bumper is damaged, then I would of thought my car would not pass the mot, maybe I am wrong. I am quite happy to save on money if it was not necessary to get the bumper repaired. I don't know how they decide on all these things.

if you dont get the car repaired and someone rearends you again you wont get paid out again iirc..

MOT is not a failure if you have the sharp edges covered over with gaffa/duct tape.. just look at the old mondeos kicking about :rotfl:

I had an old Hillman Avenger that someone hit the back of, and paid cash for. The boot opened but wouldn't shut again.
I just beat it the back panel out with a lump hammer until the boot shut again, and it passed the MOT for years.

lol, most of you have been lucky. The boot of the car does open and shut, well it did before it went off repair so I assume it will be the same. My friend told me not to bother with buying the car back so now Im in two minds although I have already told the engineer I am buying it back. So shall I cover the dents and sharp bits with gaffa tape lol? Is this allowed?

Thanks for your reply vaio. No, I haven't checked my policy. Does that mean my insurance will be invalid if it is? Im not sure what you mean, sorry but I am learning all this through you guys lol.

    Read up your policy.

Some say that in the event of a write off, they consider that to be the end of the policy, and no further insurance cover is available on that policy.

If this is the case it means you cannot continue to insure the car under that policy, and must take out a brand new one 12 month one.

buy the car back.. £50 is a hell of a lot less than its worth as scrap.. should see 100 - 150 scrap for it no problems.

Thanks for your replies. I spoke to Tesco as I couldn't find the bit if it says if I would still be covered or not. He said I still have cover but Im not fully comp until I get the vic check and mot done. He advised me to call the dvla too.
