Burgers went down a treat with the kids! I nicked a bite, and they really do taste like McDs. Only the bun tasted different, it wasnt quite right (but that isnt anything to do with the book, obvioulsy just the buns I bought!).

    PS

The book says to cook them at 190deg but I baked them at 170deg as we have a new fan oven.

Ok update on the sweet and sour chicken. Its really really nice but the sauce wasnt quite the same as my local. The one from the local is tangier somehow BUT I think the book is pretty close and I could prob just make a couple of adjustments to make it taste the same. Rice was spot on!! I didnt take any pics for 2 reasons (1) my camera has no batteries in it and (2) even if it did I had an accident with the batter and it looked like a complete mess ashamed0002.gif tasted fine just wasnt the prettiest happy0176.gif.

Amount of rice was plenty for one person but I felt there was too much chicken for just me. Would prob reduce the amount of chicken but use the same amount of rice next time

I came to this thread for advice on thin slicing as my kebab turned out more like a meatloaf sandwich. Looks like you have it sussed.

It seems the key is to slice it cold. I was going to try my veg peeler but I've got a mandolin so will do a head to head between the two.

Also, I could not get the red (chilli?) sauce to work. Waaaaaaaay too vinegary, with the ketchup and mint sauce. I'm going to try passata next time.

It's interesting to see the different "loaf" shapes. You can spot the breadmakers! I make mine in the traditional "elephant's leg" shape for that extra touch of authenticity.

I just sliced my kebab while it was hot very thinly with a carving knife and it worked perfectly - but instead of slicing vertically I sliced horizontally across the top which seemed to make it easier to slice it in slivers.

I made the sausage and egg muffin the other day. I used a cookie cutter for the egg but it didn't work well. I've now ordered a pack of 2 silicone egg rings from ebay for £1.95 - hopefully they'll be better!

Didn't like them :( I wonder if it was the fault of my silicon baking tray? All I could taste was the smell that the tray gives off while cooking :(
