That is the book to which I was referring
My Takeaway Secret book came today and I made the Doner Kebab and I have to say it was the best one I have ever tasted. The only thing I found with mine was there was a crust around it - has anybody else found this? I think next time I will turn the oven temperature down and maybe cover it with foil so as not to waste any once cooked :drool:I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints - the sinners are much more fun0 -
hi poppytime - I havent tried the donner kebab one yet, but reading the recipe its like a meatloaf isnt it?
I was watching the barefoot contessa the other day when she made a meatloaf and she was saying that she hates it when the top of the meatloaf gets all crusty and cracked..........so she filled a loaf tin or cake tin with hot water from the tap and put it in the oven on a lower shelf. she said that the steam from that would prevent it from cracking!
I hope this helps because I had it mind to do this when i make my donner meat for the grandkids in a week or so. (oh doesnt like donner so wont do it just for myself).0 -

Yes there was a crust around it, my husband loved that bit as he said it was like the freshly cut doner meat off the spit.
I did reduce the temperature by about 10 degrees as we have a fan assisted oven.0 -

I'm hoping to make this on Thursday.
If memory serves me correctly, doesnt the recipe state you turn over the loaf halfway through cooking? Did you remember to do that? Don't know if that would make a difference or not.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

I finally got mine in the post!!! And it's damaged!! Grrrr!! Now I have to wait for a new one or shut up and take what I have!
What to do!
I just like having a new book that's perfect.... so I can ruin it!!!!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
If youre anything like me - a good cookbook gets so dog-eared, splattered, written in (the takeaway secret already has a few notes in it about how I found the recipe - whether it needed tweaking or more or less spice etc), that it doesnt matter if the book aint perfect. saying that though - if you pay for a new book then you can expect to recieve it in pristine condition!0
