I was browsing in my local library today looking for a book with Tagine Recipes and saw they had The Takeaway Secret book there - may be helpful to someone. :)

I reserved a copy about a week or so ago to try some of recipes about before buying(this was before people had left any feedback on the recipes), will collect tomorrow, and hopefully make something on monday. Judging by the comments we're getting, I think I will have to buy a copy.:)

I bought the Takaway Secret a few weeks (because of this thread!) ago but hadn't got around to making anything. Had some whoopsied organic lamb mince in the freezer so, after seeing those scrummy pics of the lamb doner kebabs on here last night, decided that those would be tonight's tea. I'm not a huge fan of lamb or doner kebabs for that matter so didn't have high expectations but....wow! Very, very tasty!! Will definitely make them again. I made the 2 kebab suaces (red and white) and they were both lovely with it. OH absolutely loved them too :) A definite winner in this house.

Naan bread next, I think. I've never had great success with naans and those ones up there^^ look lush so there'll be curry (from the Curry Secret book) and naans on the menu shortly :)

I think I will give the naan bread a go tomorrow. May make it in the breadmaker as my husband said he made it years a go and it was hard work kneading it by hand.

Has anyone seen jars of Garlic and Ginger paste in Tesco?

I think I may have a go at the Seekh Kebab but the paste is oner ingredient I have yet to buy.

I suppose I could always buy a jar of minced garlic and one of minced ginger and just use ½ tsp of each.

Although I have just seen jars of minced garlic at Tesco but it is powdered, I assumed the minced one would be the paste style.

Tesco sell tubes of garlic puree, not sure if that's the same? They're normally on the shelf with the tubes of tomato puree.

Thanks but I am not sure if it is the same or not, that may be more concentrated than the paste that he mentions in the book.

I'll take a look when I nip out soon.

    Thanks for the info.

    ;)
  • I havent been able to find the paste either. Tesco do jars of "Lazy ginger" and "Lazy garlic" so I've added those to my online order and will blend/puree them together, as required. Both are currently reduced to £1.
Great pics everyone! Can't wait to make the kebabs :j

the kneading literally only took the 4 mins he recommends in the book putting flour down to stop it sticking i had made naan breads unsuccessfully in my bread machine before but this was far quicker than using the machine and great results :D hth

It may be too late for the ones looking for it but our T3sco has some tubes of pastes in the fruit and veg aisle along with the stir fry type ingredients. Not sure if they would be what you are looking for ??
