For anyone who has tried to recreate the fried chicken and found it a bit bland, try this recipe found at the Guardian newspaper website.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2009/jul/24/kfc-secret-recipe-revealed
I just tried this but I didn't add the MSG as it isn't a thing that I normally buy and I have read that it isn't too good for you. As I was making this for my 11 year old I didn't bother buying any, whether I would add it for us adults is yet to be seen.
He doesn't say how much flour to add to the herb mix but I think it says 250g in the comments section.
Anyway, I dipped a couple of mini chicken fillets in milk then in the flour mixture then into the milk again and into the mix, then put in an inch or so of hot sunflower oil in a medium sized pan. I fried them for a couple of minutes on each side to get some colour and finished them off under the grill. My daughter loved them, it is a pity I only had two fillets in the fridge as I would have loved some myself!
I took some of the flour mix and put it in a dish for the dipping and found that there was quiet a bit of it left over. I have just put that in a plastic takeaway tub to use another time.
I have one of those mini blender type things that also grind coffee and sugar so I used that to grind and mix the spices.
'KFC' mix
1 teaspoon ground oregano
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teaspoon ground sage
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried marjoram
1 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon onion salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons Accent (MSG)
It is def worth a try.0 -
The thing I can never get to the exact recipe is the yoghurt sauce that you get in a pot from the indian takeaways, the yellow coloured one.
I have tried to make that in the past but it just tasted of bitter turmaric.
Does anyone have a failsafe recipe for it please?
I would love a recipe for this too, i can never get it right.
Thanks

Thanks for the link, but I could only see one pic - of some sausagemeat in a pan. Have I missed the one of the finished product?
Yesterday I made the lamb doner kebab, red kebab sauce and the kebab salad all served in pitta breads.
Huge thumbs up from the family. Never eaten a doner kebab before but hubby assured me it tasted like the real thing. :T
I also made the kebab style potato wedges to go with it but felt they were lacking something so I shall use my usual recipe for those next time.
Doing a pizza from the book tomorrow.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Elf, go to your pic at Photobucket and double left click on the box by the side of your pic that says Direct Link, it will show Copied in yellow.
Then, above the box that you type your comments in you will see a little yellow square with a mountain and sun in it (4th icon from the right). Click on that and it will bring a box up that says http etc in it, just copy (Ctrl button and V) into that and it will put your pic in your writ up.
Hope that helps.0 -
I have had an idea for the sausage meat patties for the muffins.
When you flatten the mince, roll it between foil, greaseproof paper etc to make it flat but use a round pastry cutter to make a perfect circle. I imagine that will fit on the muffin better and use one of those egg rings for the egg if you have one of those.
I am going to try one tomorrow, will let you know how it tastes.0 -
