I did the Lamb doner with pitta salad, red and white kebab sauce and pitta bread, delicious! I did make the pitta bread, but they turned into great big bread rolls so OH had to dash to the shops to buy some :)

the consensus seems to be, that they left out some instructions for making the pitta breads

although it says shape into balls and set aside for 20mins, you really need to squash the balls into a pitta shape, and then leave for 20mins, before baking

Think my DH may actually be in love with Kenny McGovern! He has taken to calling the book "The Bible" and it is stuck down the side of his chair, he already knows some of the page numbers and has decided that we MUST have a recipe from it once a week!

I bought this book after trawling through this thread and have to say I'm very impressed with it.

The donner kebab and chicken and vegetable pakora with all the various sauces were lovely.

Cost a fair bit to stock up on all the various herbs and spices but like many others, I discovered it's far cheaper to buy them from ebay.

  • made chicken with sweet and sour - another success, tastes lovely and fresh better than the takeaway, would only make a 1/4 of the batter next time there was tons!

anyone know how to make lemon sauce? think the chicken balls would be nice with that for next time

I have had this book for ages and I love it too! it now contains more handwritten notes though than Mr McGovern originally wrote!
my favourites from it are the beef chow mien - it was actually better than the local takeaways with a bit of tweaking, the lamb donner (and I dont like donner usually), the sirloin beef in gravy - oh boy did i get that gravy wrong the first time! chicken pakora and the southern fried chicken (dont use breast meat its better with thigh meat). not that I have tried ALL the recipes, but most of them are pretty good and far healthier than the takeaway version.
and as for the jars of spices etc I had to buy - well I HAVE found that I can substitute the onion and garlic powders for fresh sometimes and the other spices are earning thier keep too!

    Snap!

This is the only recipe book that I have that I've written in and has creases, oil stains etc on the pages.

Every other book I have and I have a few, has always been carefully put away and is spotless.

I'ts weird, you buy this book, make a few recipes from it and then panic when you can't find it. I'ts like a little kid with a comfort blanket, you don't want to part with it.

I purchased the book a couple of weeks ago. So far have made 2 x Doner Kebabs - first was a bit "lamby".
I added a little more herbs etc for the 2nd one and it was almost perfect)

Started to prepare the breakfast sausage muffins last night.
Couldn't wait until this morning so I had a sausage & bacon muffin last night (I'm not an egg lover).

It was AMAZING! It tasted EXACTLY like the 'golden arches'! I was so shocked! :j

I will be making more on the weekend so will take some pics!!!
