Morning, having a pants day. Went to take dd1-aged 13 to docs as someone threw something in her eye yesterday. Also got booked in to have my flu jab tomorrow.
Whilst we were there i decided to address the fact that she's still suffering from thrush and the cream they are prescribing isn't working as its to releive itching and she doesn't have that. She has a lot of discharge and it smells bad. Its awful for her at school, she feels uncomfortable. Last time the nurse told her she is likely to suffer with it all her life, which broke her heart.
So i asked the doc to prescribe a tablet to just clear it up, he wrote out the prescription, then checked the book and said he can't give it her as she needs to be 16. He asked if i wanted more cream.....had he listened to what i'd said? so i said no we still have a tube and a half, he said to keep using it and if it continues to come back.....what for? This is at least the 4th visit in 6 months....its not going and the cream isn't working.
So i went to the pharmacy to ask for advice, didn;t get past the 1st line before bursting into tears...tried to describe everything whilst being a blubbering mess in front of dd1 and dd2. Not sure who was more embarassed, me, the staff or my poor kids.
Pharmacist was lovely, but also couldn't give her anything different and suggested i take her to the nurse as they are more sympathetic.
I just don't know what to do...i'm going round in circles and can't stop crying. She's 13 and shouldn't have to be going through this :(
Does anyone have any advice or know of any herbal remedies that she can try?
She has regular tea tree oil baths to try to help, i think they ease it a little, but its not a solution.
    xx

I've been doing hampers for the parents and inlaws for the last few years. I was nervous the first year but they loved them and now expect one every year! I look for bargains, sweets on bogoff to split between them etc. I made flannel reindeers for the mums which they loved and were disappointed the following year when I didn't make them! lol

I want a water birth and have also considered hypnobirthing too, mainly because I'm such a stressy tense person and thought it might help if I can learn relaxation techniques. Not done anything about it yet though. On Baby and bump forum they have a natural birthing forum and there are loads of waterbirthing stories on there and lots of advice too. Worth a look.

Thanks will have a look. I've no idea if the hynobirthing will work but am thinking anything is worth a try. If all else fails I'll be asking for all pain relief available :rotfl:

I too suffer from recurrent thrush and use natural yoghurt as a natural cure it works a treat but i use it by dipping a tampon in it and inserting not sure if your DD could do this ony being 13, i do only use the very small mini tampons though as i don't usually use them so perhaps this could be an option?

  • Ah Jojo, sorry youre having a rough time, and hugs to your DD too, didnt think it could happen at such a young age! Ive found this that might be of some help?

    http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/health/312059/How-food-can-help-prevent-thrush

If the doctors cant give anything more than they already have you are best off looking into natural ways of preventing thrush, sorry, thats a really obvious thing to say isnt it! Can I ask....has she started her periods yet? Im not a doctor, just have a lot of experience in this!

So to but in ladies (I'm not pregnant), I felt I had to reply to Jojo's post about thrush. Have the drs done a swab to confirm that it is thrush? there are infections which have the same symptons, I am not talking about STD's. I remember years ago I had what I thought was thrush and nothing would clear it,the nurse did a swab in the end and it was something called gardenella (spelling!!) one course of anti biotics later all better.

After having DD I had thrush for approx 4 months, in the end the dr prescribed pessaries for a week and then gave me vit B to take. I don't know if this is an option for your dd.

To try and keep it at bay cotton underwear, no tights and no tight fitting trousers. Once the problem clears, if it occurs treat immediately.

    I'm go away now!!

  • Hey Sammy - the NCT class was good, although obviously the first session you dont know anyone so it can be a bit awkward.

They all seemed a nice bunch though, and OH seemed to gel with some of the boys so that was good.

Whether it was worth the money, I'm not sure yet, but hopefully I'll make a few new friends out of it.

Does anybody else's ribs hurt when they sit for a long time?

Poor thing :( I was reading up on thrush in pregnancy, not the issue here obviously but you might get some tips as it's about avoiding the usual routes:

    http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/pregnancy/a/vagitchpregnanc.htm

Saying that - I went to the doctors yesterday about my itching and was presrcibed a canesten pessary - I'm staying away from it until I can speak to the midwife as I'm not sure about it.
