  • Hi Ladies,

Just thought I'd tell you I'm sitting here feeling young, glamourous and sexy (NOT!) in my varicose vein support tights....

As I'm in Holland (health insurance system, no NHS), the insurance only covers one pair of tights. I have to go back in 3 months to get reassessed and get a 2nd pair.

So I thought I'd just buy a 2nd pair out of my own money....

I thought again when they told me they're €109.50 :eek::eek:

Don't know if I'll be able to stick with them - they're pretty hardcore and take about 10 mins to put on! The best way is to use rubber gloves with knobbly bits on....:rotfl::eek:

    Ahhhh the glamour of pregnancy.......

You edited your post! See, I agree with this. I think all these buzz words are used to try and get parents to assume things are safer or whatever and therefore spend more money. But then I do have quite different views from other people about babies, what items are necessary and how to bring them up :s I've already had some friends disapprove at my opinions, so I try and keep my mouth shut now. But I do like to get other peoples opinions so I can make my own mind up.

    Well here is mine.
I bought a gorgeous second-hand cot with used mattress - a bargain but reminded at every turn to get new mattress (esp off GP sis-in-law) so I researched into it a lot, taking into account the advertising blurb and pseudoscience. We bought an organic mattress from cotmattress.com with free waterproof protector for £130. Slightly more - okay a lot more - than I'd wanted but if it means baby might sleep better than it is priceless! The reason I did this is because I had a vile experience with a foam mattress we bought for ourselves last year which made me wheeze and feel ill as soon as we got it so I was determined to get a mattress with natural fibres for baby. With OH's sensitive skin and reoccurring eczema at the slightest cheap detergent, I thought I'd push the boat out...even buying bamboo sheets!!!:p (for baby, not him)

That cake is ace. Lucky you.:)

On the subject of new mattresses to prevent sids etc... Has anyone here heard of matress wrapping?

    http://www.stopsidsnow.com/SuccessOfMattressWrapping.html

It's practised in New Zealand and they claim that no baby has died of sids from a wrapped mattress... You can buy them over here and I don't think they're that expensive...

I was baffled when I went for my dating scan as I knew for a fact that I was exactly 12 weeks and 1 day, however she put me a whole week further on..how does that work then????

I was the same - my private scan put me at exactly the same day that I'd got to but my dating scan and subsequent 20 week scan have put me at 4 days further gone. Which means I conceived 2 days before we DTD. Try explaining that to OH.. ;)

Shattered already today - train was 25 minutes late so had to stand on a freezing platform for ages after rushing to make sure I got there in time, and then sit (thankfully) on a boiling train full of two trains worth of commuters. Bah.

Thanks, Krystal.. I have now. It's interesting why we don't actually know about it...all comes down to funding:mad:. There is a good article here that explains cot death theories and mattress wrapping has a 100% success rate in preventing SIDS.

    http://www.childalert.co.uk/article.php?articles_id=374

(Although on balance - Dr Sprott, the guy whose research it is based on has invented the Babesafe mattress wrapper so....hmm!!!!!He's raking it in!)

Best of luck. I can feel your nerves but you'll be okay, chick.x Get whoever is taking the pictures to stand up and take them looking down at the top of your head iyswim - so baby is in full view and mummy is looking intently at baby.;)
