Thanks, Krystal.. I have now. It's interesting why we don't actually know about it...all comes down to funding:mad:. There is a good article here that explains cot death theories and mattress wrapping has a 100% success rate in preventing SIDS.

    http://www.childalert.co.uk/article.php?articles_id=374

(Although on balance - Dr Sprott, the guy whose research it is based on has invented the Babesafe mattress wrapper so....hmm!!!!!He's raking it in!)
I think it's the same as everything, you have to look at it all objectively... There is another study that says the reason the SIDS rates dropped is because they did a similar thing to our "back to sleep" campaign...

Also, when you look at actual rates... The infant death is usually attributed to something other than SIDS in this country so it could be the same over there...

Although I do think the toxic gas thing is the reason we're recommended to buy a new mattress for each child... But I believe that's more of a risk when a mattress has been stored somewhere (attic / Garage etc) for a good length of time between babies... The longest our cot mattress will be stored is 4 months... And it's in the corner of our bedroom... So I don't think it needs replacing...

Totally agree. Giving it time to fester aids production of the gases/fungus especially in those dark, moist environments. I'm focussing on airing mattress and the room often, keeping it dry and making sure baby does not overheat (and therefore sweats less). Just hope they aren't a massive bed wetter as well or I'll be flummoxed. Still, we'll do our best. We're new to parenting so we'll make all our mistakes on this one and try and get it right next time!!

    I am so excited :D

So this weekend we are going to test out the car seat/iso fix etc to make sure it all fits in the car, and assemble the Bug.

I may take one of the cats out for a stroll around town in the Bugaboo and scare people who look into the pram :rotfl:

  • 17 weeks exactly today and i feel definate movement:j:j:j
It's different than with DD first movements with her was like a butterfly tickling me inside and this time it feels more like actual movements, hard to describe but I guess like tiny tightenings. I think adding more weight to my suspicions it's a boy, the movements just don't feel ladylike! LOL.
    Anyway woohoo movements! :T

  • Good luck for today CrazyTink! Im sure everything will be fine!

I feel like !!!!!! today, had the flu jab yesterday and am now very tired, but Im not sure if thats because I stayed up a bit later watching the miners (cried everytime one came out!). Quite achy too, hmm, may have to go home early today.

In other news, had driving lesson last night where instructor said that if I pass my theory on Tues I can put in for the driving test as the earliest date available around here at the moment is December eek. Thats very exciting and scary and Im just wondering if I'll actually still be able to fit behind the wheel in December? Im growing like god knows what...

Have 20 week scan tomorrow, have had a lot of discharge lately, so much so that Ive wondered if my waters have been coming away really slowly and Ive not realised? I guess they'll check the fluid around baby. I know we have a lot of it when pg but Im sure I never had this much with dd, its a bit disturbing really!

    Hows everyone today?

    Morning everyone x

Krystal we are not buying a new mattress either, I take alot of advice with a pinch of salt. Also we are not storing it, it'll be used by DS until I buy him a new bed then the baby will use it, really need to get DS a new bed eeekk.

Princess I only ever felt the butterflies with DS, not with DD my first and not with this one which is a boy but I think this time it was because of the placenta being in the way. Congrats on feeling the little one, its lovely at that stage. I'm at the please stay still for 5 mins it hurts when you move stage.

Due march good luck for the theory test, you'll be behind the wheel before you know it without an instructor. I still fit behind the wheel easy enough but the seat belt is really annoying when I'm driving now.

Also I've had plenty of discharge for the last few weeks but at my scan I had excess fluid that they are concerned about so it's not fluid leaking. Hopefully yours is fine too, good luck for the scan x
