Rach - that makes me mad that instead of considering the individuals health and well-being its all about meeting targets and statistics.

I find it strange that they're so willing to whip women onto the operating table for an emergency c-sec when the slightest thing out of the ordinary happens, but not make a perfectly sensible decision (in your case) to have a planned one.

Can you take someone with you tomorrow to help you state your case?
I know, this is what I find weird too, when I said my biggest fear is being left and left and then ending up with an emergency section anyway, he said that's the same for anyone and 15% of women naturally end up with this.

Am not sure who I could take, my mum isn't here, DH will just get angry. Have one friend who is a nurse and she's calling me tonight, if she's free she might come with me. DH just wants to go private but that's not really an option! His new job will have private healthcare but too late!!

I think it's all made worse for me by the fact that we nearly lost my sister because decisions weren't made when they should've been. I'm amazed my BP was normal!!

I am going to make very clear tomorrow how little mobility I have as that should help I think.

Rach I really think they should be listening to you :(

I'm pretty sure you have the right to a second opinion!

Thanks everyone. Starting to wonder if i'm just making a big fuss about nothing and could sail through naturally. Who knows, I guess that's the point, no one does! I do understand that a section is a big op.

To be fair to the consultant he did listen to what I was saying and didn't rule it out I don't think, just didn't want to book me in there and then which was what I'd expected/hoped for. He kept making me go back to my typed notes to make sure I'd shared everything I wanted to which I felt was good. I think my sister may be right that he didn't want to make a snap decision when he was clearly unhappy that it had been left so late. I know that if they still say no tomorrow I can ask to see another consultant for a second opinion...I'm currently reading up on the NICE (national institute for clinical excellence) guidelines and have also facebooked a guy I know who is an anaesthetist to see if he knows anything about obstetrics!

I keep telling myself that I was only meant to see him on thurs so I'm still ahead of what could have been!

Tomorrow I will be asking them to explain every decision/recommendation clearly and if they do say it has to be natural delivery I will ask for parameters to be set for how long I can go etc and it all clearly written in my notes. (not from a family of nurses for nothing ;)

eta: he also seemed to be saying that they'd need to do an internal (tomorrow?) when i mentioned period type pains and wet knickers!

delain - how are you babe?

  • Fuzz - your post could have been written by me!!
I too am feeling the same. Can't really complain as I have had a really easy pregnancy until this weekend. Heartburn started for me too - although just read about love hearts so I'll give that a go!! Love them too. I too have had about 10 days now of no sleep. I keep waking up at 2am, and then again at 3 and then I just get up at 5!! Don't need the toilet though :p
And to top it all I done my back in real bad yesterday. Ended up in physio last night and am now walking like a proper pregnant lady - you waddling pregnant ladies and ladies with SPD have my full sympathy!
Only 7 working days left though :j

this might be worth a read for anyone interested, it is the level of care we are entitled to for normal delivery

  • Oh also forgot to ask whether anyone else is trying hypno-birthing or similar??? I have always had an irritational fear of childbirth, but I am feeling a little more calm, and dare I say it, am almost looking to the birth now  I'm sure that will change mind

Rach - you could sail through just fine. You know i had bad SPD both times and honestly once head fully engaged and I was contracting it seemed to stop, didn't hurt. I didn't find induction any different to spontanious delivery but I do think the hospital needs to listen to your wants, you know your own body better than anyone and just because others have coped fine doesn't mean you will and just because some others have needed a section it doesn't mean its the best for you.

I have never had an appointment with an anethatist.

  • Evening all,

After lurking for a few weeks thought I'd finally post on this thread as it seems so lovely and friendly and that I'm 33 weeks today!

I've had quite a complicated pregnancy in terms of medical issues but all seems to be fine although I have scans every 3 weeks!

Would love to join the list as it seems like this thread is full of support!
