    Hi all,

4 days overdue and still no sign of bump :(

As we don't know the flavour of ours, names have been a bit of a nightmare - I concluded that until it's here we can't really choose as it'll pop out and not look anything like a Sam or Lucy or whatever we pick!!! I have no preference to the flavour although I think OH would love a little daddy's girl.

I'm classed as a complicated pregnancy and supposedly consultant-led... I think I've seen the consultant's for all of 15 minutes over the last 9 months! To begin with I had my booking-in appt at 8 weeks and then had to wait til 12 weeks before seeing anyone again. It did feel like I wasn't seeing anyone for ages but as the pregnancy has progressed I'm in and out seeing the midwife weekly, almost too much!

I'm lucky that we are given a list of phone contacts in my area that if I'm anxious I can give them a call and speak to a mw over the phone - I did this in the early stages when I wasn't seeing anyone much and they were really reassuring.

  • Well, got my 20 week scan today, so naturally sproglet has decided to make me feel grim today. Sick and poorly tummy (at the same time :(). Well, I had 3 days off sickness, so I can't complain too much.
Have to go in to work afterwards too as we're so short staffed that there's no way I can jusify working from home.
Must get off now as I have to get ready before we go out, and get some change for the expnesive scan pics.

Good luck to other scanees today x

  • Thanks for the good wishes Lilian & Merfe and thanks for letting me vent. I'll let you know how I get on, scan is at 10.30 so not too long to wait now. Then OH & I are going to go and do some baby shopping and have a nice lunch. Have a good day all and I'll catch up with you all later xx

Sarahangel, please don't feel bad, it's totally understandable why you would feel you'd want a boy, I think I'd feel the same in your shoes. And this is a great place to get all those niggling things and guilty feelings off your chest. I secretly wanted a girl last time, but never said it to anyone, even OH, as we knew we were having a boy, but I felt guilty all the way through for even thinking it. It didn't matter once he was born though (even if I did eye up pretty things now and again!), and now I couldn't imagine it any other way. I'm getting my girl this time, so I have the best of both worlds.

Welcome Peaches, and hope everyone is well this morning.
  • Sarahangel - I felt the same about DD when they told me i was having a girl at 20 weeks I was gutted and it took me the rest of the prenancy to suddenly realise that I dont care what sex they are, just how cuddly and gorgeous they are lol. DD is a real rough and tumble girl, so much prefer her to a wimpy boy :D But I am hoping to have a boy this time round but we have chosen a really nice girls name just in case so again I'm not bothered (plus it will be cheaper as we already have girls clothes lol).

    morning all

good luck with the scans sarahangel and hngrymummy.

Sarahangel i think it's perfectly natural for you to feel like you do, and don't feel bad for saying it. That's what this forum is for, I've said things I'd never say in real life, even to DH or my family.

DH and I would both secretly like a girl, though only really because we have a girls name, and also for DH, he adores his little neice and she's the first baby he's had experience of so somehow he feels he can relate to that. But we'll genuinely be happy with a healthy baby and everyone I know says you just love them anyway! Smartie was keen on having another boy but she's besotted with Daisy!!

Phoned lab ward at 8am to be told consultant won't be there til 9 or 9.30 so they'll phone me back then to say when to come in, but should still be this morning. Bit frustrating but can't be helped I guess, not sure why they say phone at 8 then!

Woken with quite a bad headache, had it when I went to bed, probably just a bit of anxiety I guess. Have taken some paracetomol. Also think I may be getting tightenings, not sure if they are BHs or not - I thought they'd be over whole bump but they don't seem to reach the flabby part at the very bottom!! Also getting some kind of stabbing pains right in my foof, almost like something is happening to my cervix. But I don't know if this is something happening or just the SPD. Guess I'll mention it when I go in!

  • Sounds like the reasons behind being high risk make a difference to how often you're monitored. I have diabetes and have had appointments at the combined clinic (diabetic ante-natal clinic) every 2 weeks since I booked in at 6 weeks. To be fair, it's been a diabetic appointment every 2 weeks and obstetrics/diabetes every 4 weeks, but if I've wanted to talk to a midwife I've always had the chance. The downside is that I've also needed bloods taking every 4 weeks and it's pretty difficult to keep pregnancy a secret from work etc when I take up to a morning off every couple of weeks (can take a while to be seen by all the different people at the clinic).

We have a boys name that we're sort-of happy with, though none of them jumped out as a favourite - OH works in schools with kids with behavioural problems so has been put off most names used in the last 15 years...

Rach - fingers crossed for your appointment today. I'm sure you did this yesterday, but try to explain your fears to them and see what they say. I think it's really hard making a decision about delivery when you've never experienced it before, I've gone from thinking I definitely want a c-section, to thinking an induction might be better and being scared about a section, and back again. Hoping that you get something sorted that you're happy with.

Offically rubbish at posting but keeping up with you all..just.

Rach - Not surprised you are feeling so anxious - make sure anything that is agreed is because YOU want it. Stick to your guns as you know your own body better than any one. Also, thanks for posting those NICE guidelines.

Good luckwith scans today Sarah and Hngrymummy and oodles of Labour vibes for JMF76 and Ethel'smum;)

Bubs has been head-down for AGES but now decides to go for a floatabout so possibly breech and Midwife literally doesn't know my baby's ar5e from it's elbow. She palpated me like a 12-year old boy having his first grope of a girl.:D She told me to try bear-walking to get bubs in position, which is a killer on the knees and makes you realise just how grubby your floors are.

Hope everyone is in good spirits despite their ailments and aches.

ps Boys names aren't happening here either - too common or too sissy. Hopefully she won't need one!
