I don't really have any specific needs - I would just like one that I can use the car seat in the pram and then unclick it and click it into the car, as we only have a 3 door and the boot isn't very big! I'm happy to get one from Boots online if I can just understand it all!

I bought a Graco travel system from toys 'r us and got a car base with mine, it's not an isofix base - it is still held by the seat belt, but it does mean the car seat can be clipped in and out easily and onto the chasis of the pram. It's not originally what I wanted but it seems good, it was a good price too:D
  • Glad to hear your little man is settling in well at home Courgette :) sounds as if you are doing really well.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is having this weird thing with the ear. It's really annoyng me as no matter what I do it doesn't seem to go away. Hopefully it will stop soon!

  • Evening ladies,

Just an update, been to the Doctors, she was very understanding and thinks I need some counselling and she has given me a number to ring.
She has also signed me off for 2 weeks to give my hips/pelvis a chance to settle down.

Sounds like Raphe is settling in well Courgette.

Thanks. OK so my next question is - we have a 2000 Ford Fiesta so no Isofix fittings. Do I still buy a car seat base? The one I'm looking at says "secures using adult 3 point seat belt" so I assume I do? It also says "The Graco Junior Baby Base takes the guesswork out of fitting your car seat. This is fitted once in the car (using the adult seat belt) and then the Auto Baby locks into place with just one Graco click"

So that sounds to me like I need the base. Am I right?

I still have no idea if the chassis will fit in the boot of the car but I guess that if I buy online I'll be covered by the 7 day distance selling regulations and be able to return it. There's 10% off this weekend but we don't have time to go and try it out!

Lovely to hear from you Courgette :) Glad you and Raphe are doing well xx

The Graco junior baby seat, which is what I have, can be fitted using the base or without, I'll be leaving the base in my car which will be used more often but the seat can be used in my hubby's car or my mum's without the base. I have the handbook I'll check how well it will fit in a fiesta.
  • It says in the handbook that the car seat/base is suitable for fiesta's however at the front it says the suitability of cars listed is from 2001 :undecided

Oh just noticed that you are still getting the accessory pack - footmuff, changing bag and raincover for free in toys r us. (Not the carrycot though)
  • Hi there,

Been busy this week so mainly lurked. Quick update - Back in July on the day I got BFP my OH had a funny turn at work and so I took him to hospital. He had some weird visual effects and then lost 25% of his vision in his right eye. He has had CT scans and MRI's since. This wednesday we went to see a consultant who informed us that it was a stroke that caused the visual problem, and that the MRI revealed that he has actually suffered 2 strokes within his visual cortex, one on each hemisphere. Joy! So OH is 38 and has survived 2 strokes. He is now on 4 types of medication daily for the rest of his life.

Hi TP. I just wanted to give you some hope. My Dad had a brain haemorrhage when he was in his early 40s. Didn't drink or smoke and wasn't overweight. It saved his life though, as they discovered that he had high blood pressure and put him on loads of tablets. As a result, when he did have a stroke, it was nowhere near as bad as it could've been. The strokes your OH have had have ensured that the Drs are aware of his condition and are able to treat it and stop the result being worse should it happen again. I'm sure it sounds like a weird way of thinking about it, but I know that had my Dad not had the haemorrhage, then the stroke would've killed him.
Your OH has a very good chance of a good recovery My Dad is mostly ok, and still going strong 20 years later. He only has problems when he's tired. He tries to always see the funny side of things, such as when he misses his mouth completely and spills his dinner, and he'll suggest a bib might be a good idea. :p
You and your OH will take a bit of time to get used to things, so just give yourselves time. Just be aware of what type of stroke he had - bleed or clot. Some people recommend taking aspirin to prevent strokes, but that won't help a bleed, which is what my Dad had.

Sorry for such a long rambly post.

Well i slept this afternoon and all pain/possible contractions stopped. Just got back from seeing the midwife (it was the rubbish one that never answers any of my questions) and she said the head is engaged and booked me in for a sweep at 40 plus 2 just incase and will book me in to be induced at 41weeks. She also told me it is very very unlikely that they will let me have a water birth if i have to be induced:(

Does anyone know if the fact that the head is engaged means its really likely to happen soon, or can the head be engaged forever and still nothing?? :o
    :heart:Baby No.1 due 27/9/10:heart:
  • Cheers hngrymummy! OH has had clots that caused bleeds, just to be different lol. They have now discovered that OH blood is too thick but they cant work out why. We are extremely grateful that they were so minor. The first stroke, we werent even aware of till we got the MRI results after the second one. I had been nagging OH that if he drank as much as he did it would cause problems, just wish I hadnt been right. He is taking well to the new lifestyle, and the multiple tablets. Although he is frustrated that he wont ever have a full range of vision in his left eye, but compared to the alternitives he woiuld much rather have that then anything else.

One of the main things he is annoyed about is that we were planning on emigrating to New Zealand and that isnt looking likely at the moment. I have told OH I dont care as long as we end up being 80 and in a nursing home peeing our pants together thats all I want. lol

Sorry for another rambling post from me!

    Well done to courgette!
