  • Wahhh I think I must have man-flu.

Feel awful, hardly slept again last night. Pounding head, sore throat, blocked nose. Trying to work out what you can take (not much!) is a mindfield too.

I have been drinking hot honey + lemon, taking the odd paracetamol and sent OH out earlier to buy me some Olbas oil.

Meh..practically spent the whole w/e in bed :(

Thanks very much - I'm wondering whether June/July would be better purely cause it's not summer holidays so the ferry might be cheaper. But that's great to know that earlier is probably better!

In Ireland the school holidays are in July & August, so the ferry prices and cottage rental prices will probably be cheapest before the start of July. Also, the first 2 weeks of July are extremely busy with holiday makers from the North of Ireland visiting the Republic as a lot of people have holidays fixed to these 2 weeks.

I would definitely say take them before they're mobile... They're much happier to just sit where you put them whereas once they can move around they get a bit more free-range and aren't so happy to be cooped up for too long...

Do think about frequent stops though if the baby is going to be strapped in a car seat, they're not recommended for longer than an hour or so at a time...

(also, if you do it before they're weaned you only have to worry about milk not solids!)

Oh that's interesting - I didn't know that, thank you. We are looking at 25th June for a week so I think that would be ideal based on what you've said. We have enough Tesco points to pay for it in full at the price it is now so I think we should just book it - if (god forbid) anything was to go wrong then it would mean OH and I would have a holiday to look forward to to take our minds off it.

Good points - thank you. Will bear the first one in mind, and weaning starts around 6 months does it? So 5 months would be a good time?

i agree any age is fine for holiday. Just be prepared to feel like your moving house. We went caravaning when DS was a little older but still needed cot, steriliser, toys plus lots more, but i am the sort of person who packs for all eventualities just incase.

    Haha - thanks! :D

Morning all - hope courgette is getting mummy cuddles soon and labour vibes to all who want them.

I spent the morning writing a birth plan of sorts but that will probably never even see the light of day - I did it more so that I knew in my own head what I wanted if I get asked during the birth.

I am now definitely at the two trips per night to the toilet stage! But did sleep pretty well last night despite that.

I am not too uncomfortable but seem to have a semi permanent little pain in my tummy, its like a stitch down the front of my bump that just lingers - its not overly painful but I am just aware that it is generally always there.

Been trying to get in touch with local homebirth team so I can have a "just in case" kit (including gas & air lol!) at home in case I can't get to hospital - am hoping they will let me have it as the woman who will be looking after my two boys when I go into labour goes on holiday for a week on Friday so I am panicking a little in case baby comes while she is away. Haven't been able to get hold of them yet so will try tomorrow.

    Best wishes to all :)

  • Yeah six months is the recommended... Some start earlier, a few start later... We didn't wean Caitlyn until she was 6 months and she just went straight onto what we were eating, a world different from when I weaned Aimee at 5 months and spents weeks boiling and pureeing stuff!

MV - I feel for you, I had a cold in early pregnancy and it was horrid. You're allowed to feel awful - your body is growing a baby so you have less reserves than normal for fighting a cold. So allow yourself lots of rest! As for medicine I personally think paracetamol is the best thing anyway - and if you look at the packets of standard cold remedies the active ingredient tends to be paracetamol, sometimes with caffeine, sometimes with a decongestant (no idea if they're ok for pg). As for sore throats a basic glycerin cough syrup is ok - but check with the pharmacist that the one you're getting is ok. I've been told that normal boiled sweets are just as good as cough sweets but tbh I've no idea if that is true. One more thing that is nice for sore throats (doesn't cure, but soothes for a little while) - ice cream!! Hope you feel better soon.

I'm on 3 - 4 toilet trips a night depending on when I go to bed! It's roughly every 2 hours apart from at the end of the night. But lately I have been better at getting back to sleep after each trip which for me classes as a good night's sleep these days!:D

I'm on one or two trips to the toilet, first one is normally an hour or so after I've gone to sleep and the second is 4am. Sometimes it's just one of those two.

MV - I hope you feel better soon xxx

    Hi all

I am also on 2 loo trips at least...usually around 1.30 and 4.30...but I end up going about 3 times before i can get to sleep too!

DH is a bit brighter now, thankfully. He has hoovered this morning and done a few other jobs. We've decided to get the baby's room fully sorted by the weekend - I am hoping to do most of it with my mum. Been to church and was given steriliser and bottle set from lady who had a stillbirth a few years ago, she offered me some bits and that was all we really needed. Feels a bit odd but I know she feels better knowing they are being used. Also got the breastpump and other bits that my friend had collected from lovely netmums lady- she had also put in a few sleepsuits, a couple of books and a pack of newborn nappies. So lovely of her! Must do a thanks card.

Walked home from lunch at nero today so now need to rest all aft. Mum arrives about 7.30 and we are going for a meal out, dh having his friend around for PS3 night.
