Giz, I would spell it Steffan in Welsh (a single f would be pronounced v otherwise), but Stefan in English. Never seen Steffen, that's unusual.
My hubby is convinced that's the German spelling. I'm not 100% sure though. I will win though...so Stefan it is.

got my free boots changing bag today. really impressed with it!:T
Still waiting for my voucher. When does it arrive? Must be over a month now since I joined the club. I signed up for everything after the 12 week scan.

Actually I have another questions about these freebies...most of them seem to require you to buy a pack of nappies. There's sainsburys, tesco and boots that I'm aware of. Given I'm going reusable and already have 81 newborn nappies. Are any of these worth the nappy purchase? I suppose it would be handy to have some disposables for when out for the day, if I'm allowed to buy bigger sizes under these vouchers.

Nice to see there are good midwives out there. So far the 2 I have met are both 'older' and have years of experience. I can understand that a young, new, midwife with no kids herself might be strict at doing things by the book...

The Tesco one isn't really worth it unless you can double up on vouchers and get the nappies practically free like I did.

Sainsburys I haven't picked up yet because I lost my voucher!

Boots - I would maybe give them a ring as they've been changing over the parenting club stuff and some people have been missed out. The change bag is worth getting though as it has a wipe clean travel changing mat in it as well.

Both my midwives have been crap so far. Ah well - it's lucky I've got you guys and Google isn't it!

Giz, I agree with Lillian - the Tesco one isnt worth it and the Boots changing bag I like. The sainsburys one has a few free samples and a changing mat. I managed to get mine when the nappies on offer, so thought it was worth it, but if you are not using disposables it probably isnt worth it.

Thanks dream. Paracetamol are rubbish arent they! Will keep an eye on the back pain, though all the time bubs is going manic, I am not at much risk of it being labour am I? They go quieter dont they?

    Hi all

wrote a post earlier and it got eaten by the slow internet here!

mlsl - i prefer Ronan, my Godson is a Ronan.

we still have no boys names!

having a reasonable day at work, managing to get through some stuff and less tired than yesterday. Pain is a bit better, I think bubs head has dropped a bit so maybe that has stabilised things a bit!

xmas - glad you're out, stupid midwife

Overall I've been pleased with my care but the proof is at the delivery of course!

Just looking at TENS machines, wondering whether to just buy one as http://www.naturesgate-uk.com/tens-machines.php?id=55&prod=obstar-maternity-tens-machine is quite reasonable, my friend hired the same one, and over 2 babies it works out about the same price i think and then could sell or pass on. hmmm.

Ok stupid question alert, but I couldn't stop thinking about this last night! What happens to your waters if you have a planned section? Do they break them first or suck them out or what?!

    hey all,

crawling out of lurkdom as had a crappy midwife's appointment today and feeling a bit stressed out.
I'm 32 weeks now and fetal movements have been less (i think) than what they were. I'm still feeling here move (now in fact) but movements are a lot gentler. midwife told me I had good stomach muscles! that are apparently holding everything in and so that may be why I'm not feeling so much and also having an anterior placenta will also mean I will feel less. when she measured the heartrate it was 124 bpm which is still in the normal range of 110 -150 but seeing as every reading so far has been about 140 bpm I'm a little worried and have been stressing ever since.
I had two miscarriages last year and I have found this pregnancy quite stressful, but just recently have really relaxed, so much so that when me and hubby talk about our baby we call her by the name we've chosen, but today I have come down to earth with a bump realising that she isn't really here yet and I'm now expecting things to go wrong.
I also found out today that it is unlikely that I'll get the at home water birth I wanted as my local hospital (Poole) is at full capacity and then some apparently and if I go into labour at night, it is unlikely someone will be able to come out. if I go into labour during the day one of the community midwives will come out but there are only 4 of them at the moment due to one midwife being off sick for the past few months and another on maternity leave and no cover being provided. i feel really disappointed. I also found out today that the antenatal classes I was invited to that are due to start next week have been cancelled due to lack of midwives but they had failed to tell anyone, its only because I mentioned it that she realised what a huge muck up had been made by someone. all I can say is I'm relieved I forked out the money for NCT classes now.
finally i'm a bit worried about my blood pressure. my midwife took the reading and wrote it in my notes and didn't mention anything. I didn't ask as its been very low the whole way through (100/60 on average), I got in the car and read through my notes after the appointment and it says my blood pressure is 160/82, that seems really high to me and quite a big jump. thankfully I'm seeing my gp tomorrow so will mention it then
I'm sorry for butting in and moaning about stuff that probably seems really trivial, but just wanted to offload.

congrats to all of the new arrivals of late and also to MV for team blue

I was really hoping to get some great pics again M-it-3, but alas they were all a bit fuzzy and unclear.

I'll try and get them scanned in tomorrow :)

    When is your 20 weeker?

Next Tuesday - may seem strange, but I kind of wish it was further away, as after that there will be no more peeks till D-day - which is an eternity away.

Gizmodo, I'm not joining any of the clubs where you have to buy something to get your gift especially as if it's nappies as I am anti-disposables, I hear most of them aren't worth it. With Sainsbury's if you wait and join after baby is 3 months old you get 500 Nectar points instead. Also, haven't heard anything from Boots yet.
We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.

I hate to say this but that's an old wives tale. Baby can be kicking and jumping while you are having contractions getting ready to push. You never know, you might be the next queue jumper.

Sorry you're so stressed honey :(

I don't know whether this is true as I'm still baking my first, but would bubs' heartbeat not slow down a little the more developed she gets? I only think that because my MW told me the heart was so fast because it had so much growing to do - so makes sense it would slow down towards the end?

No idea really though, that's just a theory :) Hope your Dr can put your mind at rest tomorrow x

It is actually a myth that they go quieter in the days before birth.. mine didn't move once I was in labour but hopped about until then! They get less vigourous in the last few weeks as they can only do shifting rather than big movements.. but that is all.
