for a different slant on your chilli recipie, try adding a tin of ministrone soup 15 minutes from the end
I can't as we're not allowed to buy tinned soup.:o
We made a rule a few years ago that we had to make from scratch most things to save money, we don't buy and frozen food in boxes either, the only exception being Brains Faggots as we couldn't live without them.
I've got some sneaky cuppa soups would that work do you think?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

When I make bologneses I add finely chopped carrots and celery, and red wine!
I love shepherds pie with minced lamb. I make it a bit different by adding mint sauce to the meat and veg ie carrots, peas, sweetcorn etc then instead of potato on top I put suet crusties! Real comfort food!Less is more0 -
I love mince (but not mincing it up ) I usually fry the mince with onion, garlic, carrots and seasoning and then go from there. It is very easy to adapt a Bolognese recipe to make Chilli Con Carne, Lasagne, meat balls in tomato sauce, burgers etc.
I most frequently use beef but pork is a good substitute. Something else I like to do is get a 'cheaper cut' (shin, brisket), cook it slowly, break it up into chunks and use that instead of mince.
