To all of you who feel ignored, it happens to me too :D Sometimes everyone gets a mention except me  I think I must be as boring as Glad :rotfl:

But then other days, loads of people give me a wave or a hello.
Don't worry about it, it's definitely not personal. Sometimes I skim over a thread and miss a post by someone who's had major news (I realise 2 days later  ), then I feel guilty in case they think I'm ignoring them :o:D

    Who said that? :rotfl:

Troo one of these days we are going to have to meet in town for a coffee, you are forever passing information on to me and I shall have to thank you properly.

hugs to WoaS, i must say i have a terrible memory so please dont take it personally if i miss people out its not intentional, i often dont get mentioned because most times i dont have much to say but it doesnt bother me, its always nice too when newbies start posting and would like to think we make them welcome
  • Hi everyone

Sorry for not posting earlier, sick mother took priority.

I have to say first of all, that I am one of the 3 who pm'd the BG's. As I write this, I don't know who the other 2 were as I am aware of several other OSers who felt the same as I did.

I would like to make several points and hope that you will bear with me as I try to explain my reasoning for pm'ing Pink.

Firstly, I want it to be known that I am in no way wishing to see the daily thread disappear. It is my first port of call when I go online each day and like many of you, I have gleaned many useful tips, motivation and friends from it.

Secondly, I am not having "a go" at anyone at all. I fully respect everyone's rights and wishes to lead their lives as they wish and to post their own views etc, even if I don't happen to agree with them (On any subject, I'm not merely meaning OS)

Also, before anyone thinks it's just sour grapes because I don't get mentioned everyday, that's not true. I don't have the time to visit MSE as often as I did so don't post as often anyway.

I have decided to copy the pm I sent to Pink, so that you are aware that I most certainly DID NOT ask for the thread to be got rid of, but was hoping that it could return somewhat to how it was intended, when Queenie started it. I am aware of all the hard work she did in order for this thread to be created and was hoping that by clarifying a few points, that the thread would be easier to use. I was aiming to help everyone by “FLCing” the thread :D

    <<<<Morning Pink

I've been meaning to pm you for a few days, but Queenie's thread today has reminded me

When the daily thread started, it was an OS chat over the fence about our day and any little "chatty" posts were removed or sent to the Arms. However, in recent weeks, with the influx of newbies, this thread has got almost unreadable to the point that I and a lot of the other regulars, don't bother most of the time, which is a shame. I have had pm's from others who have said as much.

Is it possible that you could post something to remind everyone what the purpose of this thread is? I'm sure Queenie feels the same as she doesn't post much on it any more. There generally isn't any need to put a personalized message to everyone, but I think that the newbies feel that is what "you have to do", also reposting to say "hi, cross posted" etc

    Cheers
    TM>>>>

In a nutshell, what I was hoping that a few “ground rules” could be set down. With the influx of new OSers recently, I thought it may help. The daily thread has been going for longer than many have been on the board and so they have learned to post in a similar style to others. Thus, it has become apparent that most of the newer members feel it necessary to make an individualized comment to everyone who has already posted. Therefore it made it look like those who didn’t, were in someway ignoring everyone else or people felt guilty for not mentioning someone. Likewise, due to the fast growing thread, by the time you had posted, there may be 3 others who have got in and you had not mentioned, so the number of posts saying things like “sorry, XXX, cross-posted” was getting very high.

And in case it may be of interest to anyone, I was the one who started “Ye Olde Coffee Shoppe” in The Arms, but it died a death eventually. I am aware that the whole essence of Old Style is different from many other boards on many other forums and in no way do I wish to detract from it. I don’t want anyone to leave. I am also aware that it is only a chat forum and not the end of the world if I can’t post here again etc. And I'm sorry that people are now reacting to each other in such a way that people such as WoaS has been on the receiving end of nasty pm's.

I was going to answer individual comments, but true to style, I haven’t made notes as I went along :D It’s taken me 5 attempts to post this and I’m sure I’ve missed out something vital I wanted to say.

I await your replies – I am fully kitted up in a Kevlar pinny and have barricaded myself behind my vinegar supplies.

    Hoping to remain your friend

    Ticklemouse

ps wanted to add, that the "Queenie's thread" I refered to, was the one she started for Nov 5th, in case you are wondering :D
  • Ticklemouse, :rotfl: at the idea of being barricaded behind your vinegar!

Well done you for having the courage of your convictions and standing up to say you were one of the ones who commented on the thread. I do agree with you in all that you say. I wonder whether all that was required was a "sticky" containing the ground rules for the daily thread, so that when a new person shows up, we could refer them to the sticky and invite them to ask questions about it if they need to - and then get on with the day. At least then if somebody decides to write a book on a regular basis, the BG could gently refer them to the sticky and hey presto, they're reminded why we need to keep it brief(ish).

Still, this great conflagration of opinions and reactions has been interesting, if nothing else. :D

Oh rhubarb - edited to say that I hope your Mum is feeling better now. ~slaps forehead~ What am I like??
:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:

It's OK TickleMouse, you can come out! I'm really glad you have been up front about your PM to Pink.

For what it's worth, IMO I find the daily thread often gets a bit unwieldy with all the individual mentions - I think that this might also seem to new persons that there is a clique or club thing going on. Even for me who has been around a long time it is overwhelming...and I am one of the ones who prattle on about stuff that isn't Old Style at all (blush...) and probably making it worse for new persons rather than better.

Perhaps less is more in the daily thread. I love the thought of giving it a Flylady Blessing - it's kind of reaching CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) as new people are being a bit put off with it the way it is.

I hope whoever was horrible to WishingOnAStar is hanging their head in shame....

If I've started the thread too early on occasion...oops, sorry!! Will try and be more sensible in the future.

well I guess I'm one of the newbies in os anyway I must admit I felt a little unsure as to how to post on the daily thread at first I wondered wether I had to say hello indivdualy(sp) and then realised a hello everyone would suffice I soon learnt it was for a quick chat about what were doing that day the only gripe or thing that concered me was the times it was being started and in some cases it was before people went to bed
I won't however apologise for either a/ being a newbie on os or b/ posting on the daily thread I read a lot if not all the posts and if I feel I can help advise or put something from a different perspective I will

I wasn't one of the 3 who sent a pm at the weekend, but I have to say MATH you took the words out of my mouth and put them better than I could have!

Queenie, thanks for being the 'messenger' and starting a thread on this.

Ticklemouse, well done for being brave enough to post your pm on here, I think you have some very valid points.

Would hate to see the daily thread go but agree with other posters that some changes need to be made.

I agree TM and you've put it very well, and now I can see why new posters feel intimidated by the 'apparent' cliqueyness (how on earth do you spell that?).
