Bumping this because Unilever have just announced a recall on 250g glass jars of Bovril with a BBE before 2010, and 600g plastic tubs because of a food safety issue:

Recent wins: gym class, baby stuff
Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
Thanks for that Liz.
Just called the careline, it is only products with a BBE date of January 2010 and with certain batch codes.

We like to have Bovril as a hot drink, especially during these colder months. However it's quite pricey AND lots of places no longer stock it - our local Tesco have recently dropped it. Has anyone else tried an alternative? I'm wondering if any of the Aldi/Lidl type shops have a similar (cheaper) product? I currently pay £1.60 for a small jar.

Thanks purpleprincess. Don't fancy trying marmite as its a yeast extract, whereas bovril is beef. Haven't seen the Tesco own brand in our store, when I asked where Bovril had gone they simply said "we've stopped stocking it", they didn't mention an alternative and I couldn't see anything on the shelf. However next time I'm in there, i'll ask.
