Last Saturday morning at my Uni class we were talking about late Victorian London, and how Bovril used to be called 'fluid beef. Bovril sounds a lot better I think .
Apparently the inventor had a huge house in Southwark that was nicknamed 'Bovril Castle' by the locals. I'd switch to cubes, got to be a bit cheaper and less waste0 -
Is anybody else buying Bovril in the new squeezy containers? I find them a real pain as the lid mechanism continually gets clogged up with dried up product and a lot of the product gets wasted as you continually have to remove the lid and wash it.
I think the manufactuers are out of touch with what the public want and wonder if it's a simple ruse to make the public buy more jars more quickly. A while back they completely removed the Beef version and replaced it with a Yeast base which was foul.0 -
hmm no but i bought a squeezy marmite a while back and hubby tried it and refused to ever use it again as he said it tasted like plastic, i cant stand the stuff so not sure thereI am a stay at home mum with a passion for life and all things crafty:xmastree::santa2::xmastree:0

I so agree - tried squeezy Marmite and it's very wasteful because short of cutting the thing open you can't get the last bits out. I think it was just a gimmick, and costs more, so we won't be having that again. Didn't know they did a bovril squeezy too !0

Hi primrose,
As your thread has dropped down the Old style board I've added it to the existing bovril thread as your advice may help others.

This .pdf file tells you the contents and nutritional information for Beef Bovril (jar), Chicken Bovril (jar) and Bovril Beef Stock Cubes.

I've used the cubes recently, but I haven't tried anything out of the jars for years. Marmite is getting rather expensive, and I imagine the same is happening to Bovril, (but I could be wrong). I like Marmite on toast, but can't keep up with all the price rises.
I believe that Bovril had a product recall, covering thousands of jars, in 2008, though I'm sure that it will be extra delicious in 2010/2011.[ Eat, Drink and be Merry - for tomorrow we get the bill ]0
