This thread has me laughing out loud:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I like marmite and bovril (although i havnt had bovril for ages).
Parsnips - def 'devils poo' - i would add spinich, kale and mushrooms to his list of nasties as well!!!!
  • I have a taste for exotica from growing up in Australia. It HAS to be VEGEMITE on toast and tomato ketchup sandwiches (add a slice of luncheon meat if you must)!

I was wondering where vegemite was in all this - used to like it but now I reckon it tastes like plasticcy marmite, it introduced me to the real thing so can't complain. Bovril yuk, parsnips yum, especially when they're roasted and go crispy gooey, even nicer than marmite.

Not sure to where to post this one as Old Style doesn't seem to have a dedicated 'yeast extract' thread!

As a confirmed Marmite eater of 50 years experience, I am somewhat reluctant to have to say this but I have found something better - and by some distance.

A health food friend introduced me to this and it is available in some but not all health food stores. It's called 'Vitam-R' and is lower salt than Marmite although you have to spread more and it costs more (at the moment).

It has a to-die-for taste and I can well imagine it appealing to people who turn away from Marmite/Bovril. Thoroughly recommended. Please note that this is not spam but a genuine suggestion.

We have changed to Tesco's own brand yeast extract as it is only £1.54 whereas Marmite is now well over £2.00 for the same sized jar. I'm afraid economy wins the day here!

We also use Tesco's Value peanut butter as it is 55p, compared with 99p-£1 for most of the branded ones. They dont do a smooth one but the crunchy only has small "bits" in and is very nice.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

    Nope, sorry, just - nope.

I cannot believe that anything can ever come close to Marmite. :D

I have tried Veggie-Mite (or however you spell it), Tesco and Asda own brand and I have genuinely hated them and thrown them out. This is the ONLY brand name item I buy.

    I :heart2: Marmite

(think I may put that in my siggy!)

    Vegemite  Bleurgh!!!!

I changed to Tesco's for a while, but that's yuck too (though not as bad as Vegemite) so had to change back. A jar lasts for ages anyway so I don't really mind.
