Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I paid £103 for Broadband and TV and was offered the same 25% then 35%, this was then upped to 50% on the android app which turned out to be 35% as they don't discount multiroom.0

Same department just another name I would imagine. Tried all the different departments and none would give me anymore than was on my file even though they dressed it up differently, that's why I've ordered two Freesat Humax HDR boxes.
Sometimes slightly different too. Sky Retentions that you can speak to when you phone to cancel could never offer the same deals as the Winback team who would phone you after cancellation.
MySky shows nothing so far whereas last year the 50% offer came within minutes of cancellation. Sky Service app shows 50% although their T&C then says 35% which is a bit stupid. It does say if you stay a minimum of 12 months whereas last year's offer was just on a rolling contract.
No hurry at the moment as current 50% deal lasts till 28th May.Initial outlay will be £438 (had multi room from Sky which they wouldn't discount) but monthly Freesat charge nil then any extras I want with no contract, so no more than £17 per month instead of £73 per month with Sky.
I gave up multiroom a while ago as only me in the house now. Bought a Humax freesat box instead. I would keep one Sky box at 50% off as I prefer recording to streaming but not full price.
We shall see.0 -
Not a great result for me this time.
Currently on £13.70 for phone and broadband and £33.50 for Family and Sports HD. TV was for 10 months and 12 month contract and 2 months full price.
Phoned up and said I wasn't happy about the £5 extra per month and got offered a best deal of 25% with no contract so went ahead and cancelled. I really won't miss it that much for that price.
I didn't get any offers for my phone and broadband? I quoted the TalkTalk deal I was going to move to (I'm not) of line rental only and free internet but they didn't seem to offer me anything, only wanted to do it with TV. I might call them again soon when my contract expires as I'm used to not paying £24 a month for it! I was a customer on 02 they ported over so wondered that's why they used to get better deals.
Their want to be your friend phone manner is so sick inducing, just talk to me a like a client you want to keep, not your best mate, was on phone for phone for half an hr which could have been done in 10 mins!0 -
My contract ran out in March where i was paying £48.70 for Sky including Sport and Movies, plus broadband and Talk. Phoned on Friday to cancel and they just accepted it but got an offer of 35% off Sky Tv through the app. Contract ends 30th May so will wait and see what they offer next.
If I change my phone and broadband to another supplier do I need a PAC code if I want to keep my number?0 -
If I change my phone and broadband to another supplier do I need a PAC code if I want to keep my number?
PAC was for mobile number transfers not landline. MAC used to be needed for BB transfers but not now.
Simply let the new provider handle the transfer and let them know you want to keep your number.0 -
I had 40 days left on my contract so called sky to give notice. Was on the sky variety package with unlimited broadband and sky talk international extra all for £58.5 a month (going up by £3 from next month). Last year I got offered a £10 discount on this package for 9 months.
Spent around half an hour on the phone talking to a lady for sounded very keen to keep me. The maximum discount she could offer was 35% (was initially offered 25%) on the TV package only. I didn't agree to this at all and insisted that last year they offered me discounts on my broadband and phone line as well. She sounded apologetic that they have now taken away these discounts on offer and only have the TV discount along with a small line rental discount.
She kept me on hold to speak to her manager then again came back with the same. I insisted that they give 12 months free unlimited broadband to new customers so why not add that £7.5 further discount to my account? She then added that they don't have any discount available in their system now so absolutely cannot be done. However she did have a capacity to add a goodwill credit of 7.5 x 12 to my account.
I accepted the deal and then politely requested her to offer me HD as well, so she moved me on to the family bundle but since she could not discount that she added another credit to my account for the price difference.
So the first two months I won't be paying anything at all and later my payments should be for around £55 a month for sky family hd, broadband unlimited worth £7.5 and sky talk international extra discounted to £8 a month.
Not the 50% off some people got but still a good deal for the overall package.0 -
Gave notice last month, due to be cut off on Monday.
Had calls from broadband and TV offering different deals, but i'd like to discuss the whole package not seperate! Sky service showing 50% off TV...Not sure what to do, want to keep it all but I know if I ring them, I wont get a good deal and after the 2 phone calls I haven't had any more!
What's the best way to deal with them? Have used sky chat before and it's long, hard work and last year they couldn't offer anything decent...0 -
My cut off date was yesterday but strangely, sky was still working this afternoon. Anyway, rang them up on 03442411721 and without much effort, I got 50% and £30 credit.
I said that the 50% offer was on my Sky app and he was fine to apply that offer. However, as my next bill would be for two months, I asked if he could do anything about it and he said that he could give me £30 credit.
Happy days!0 -
I’m sure all these questions are already covered above, but frankly I can’t be doing with reading 437 pages of posts….
I’m currently with Sky (and I’m presuming I’m out of contract – I don’t know where I’d check though) and I pay £76.50 a month for:
Sky TV
Sky+HD Pack
Variety
Sports
Sky Sports 5
Sky+HD
Sky Broadband
Sky Broadband Unlimited
Sky Hub
Broadband usage & speed
Sky Talk
Sky Pay As You Talk
My broadband is pretty rubbish (typically 5-7 meg) and my Sky+ HD box is on its last legs – so I’m looking into options.
A colleague sings the praises of Virgin’s broadband, and I’m always getting targeted offers from them through the post. A few questions about Virgin though:
• I’ve struggled to find a simple like-for-like comparison of TV channels between Sky and Virgin. I know there are fewer with Virgin, but apart from Sky Atlantic are there any they don’t have which you’d actually want to watch?
• As I’m reading it, Virgin’s “Big Kahuna Sports” package doesn’t actually come with the HD versions of the sports channels. It seems that to get HD sport, you need to take their “VIP” package, including movies (which I don’t necessarily want). It sounds counterintuitive that a sports fan – let alone a Big Kahuna one… - would not want to watch the match in HD. Am I reading it right, that I’d have to take the biggest/most expensive package?
• I don’t have a landline phone connected in the house, and have always found it frustrating to have to pay a standing charge (to BT) so I can access broadband. Is it possible to avoid paying for a landline with Virgin?
Beyond that, what’s the recommended approach to getting the best deal?
I’m thinking I’ll call Virgin first, to see what the best offer they come up with, then call Sky and hope they can do better and include a new TV box.
If I go with Virgin and cancel Sky, what’s the time-line for changing my mind? I’d expect Sky to try and come back with an improved offer whilst I’m in the cancellation period/waiting for Virgin to be installed, but presumably there’s a limited window to cancel the Virgin order without penalty.
Many thanks for any guidance folks

At the moment I'm with BT and I'm paying -
£17.99 line rental
£7.50 Broadband and calls (non fibre optic)
£1.97 1571
and the contract ends in January.
I have freeview and don't have a tv package but I'm thinking about adding BT TV essential because i want to be able to watch BT Sport channels but If I add that now I'd have a BT TV contract ending a year from now and line rental and broadband contract ending in January. So would I be better waiting till January to add bt tv?0
