    Cancel then see what happens.

I tried this a few years back and I had no call back or 'don't leave us' sort of offer - the 30 days counted down and I panicked on the last day and stayed, as it were.
    Bankrupt 28/07/08!

Exactly so you have nothing to lose and can always change your mind.

    Morning all!

Just called Virgin Media, to basically try to get a discount on my package. Not had one applied for a while, so thought it about time to try my luck. I've watched my price go from £45pm to now £70pm, even though I was told the price was for 'life'.

Just finished speaking to one of the guys via a chat panel and they're unable to do anything, but offer me a discount of £3 a month - which would then tie me to another 12m service.

Fifteen years I've been with VM and their inability to offer any flexibility to existing customers is shocking. Anyone care to advise?

Don't stay with VM. I was with them a few years ago.

Move to Sky and for the last 3 years, I have got at least 50% off TV with Sky. Use Quidco and Topcashback to get money for moving over to Sky. When I did this a few years ago, I got £200 cashback with quidco.

Then every 12 months, just cancel your TV with Sky and you will get at least 50% off TV for the next 12 months.

I am delighted with Sky and I am glad I left VM.

Just to throw in that with the help of this thread (and a special mention/thanks to mikeizz), I've just achieved £980 of saves over the next year with my Sky/BT Sport/Virgin contracts. Sky do make you jump through the cancellation hoops, but the 50%/£100 offer is still very much alive and well, despite it only offering 35% on the home screen. And you can get a bit more off the multiscreens as well, although I got the impression there wasn't a lot of movement to be had there...

So thank you all. That should just about pay for one ticket to see England/Wales this weekend :-(
  • I was convinced by a vodafone saleman that I would make huge savings if I transfered my home phone and broadband to them, as well as my mobile. I was told I could keep my old number (which I've had for 37 years!) and that they would pay for all the costs of ending my BT contract early. Wrong! Neither of these things were covered, and despite cancelling the switch 5 days before it was due to happen, they took over my line anyway. To be fair, BT should nt have let it happen as I had rung them to inform them I wasn't leaving, and negotiated a new deal. The inconvenience this caused was huge! No one could get hold of me on my home phone for 2 weeks while it was sorted out. A nightmare. Beware of salemen telling porkies just to get a sale.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all who have posted on this thread - and also the one over on HUKD. I have been (hanging head in shame) a full paying Sky customer for the last 7 years. As the price has crept up over the years I kept saying that it was a lot of money and that we should look in to it to see if we could reduce the cost down a bit - but, unfortunately never quite got round to it - Sky's favourite type of customer!

I finally got my act together - started researching and came across this thread and also one over on HUKD. I made notes as to what people have been offered and then - to my husband and sons' panic stricken faces at the thought of losing Sky Sports - I went on and cancelled Sky.

Like everyone, I was offered the 10% reduction in price. I rejected the offer. (My family thought I should have accepted it as it was a saving at least!)

Shortly after, I logged on to my Sky account and there was the 35% offer. I ignored it. (DH & DSs really thought I should have accepted this offer and said that Sky really won't offer a bigger discount than that!.)

I have been on Sky Chat today - I really did want the Sky Offer25 or the 60% & £100 credit offer that people have been getting recently but they said they weren't available - so, after much negotiation, I eventually accepted 50% discount, £100 credit and no contract. I only cancelled on Sunday so, perhaps, I may have jumped in a bit too soon and may have been able to increase that if I had waited a bit longer but, in all honesty, I couldn't face losing another hour of my life on Sky Chat! I am more than happy with what I have got!

Thanks to all for giving me the confidence to haggle!

How long is it taking people to get through on Sky Chat? Doesn't seem to ever connect even when it says someone is available! Do you just leave the chat window up that says connecting and wait?
  • Has anyone else had a letter from sky saying 20% off your sky tv offer? Says it is an exclusive saving of 20% off sky tv for 10 months when you stay with sky for another 12 months. After 10 months you will pay between 21.50 and 71.50 dependent on your package..

At the moment I pay £34 a month which is till end of May, anyone know if the 20% is off this?.. If I hadn't had got a deal from sky I would be paying £73.50 a month..

Was tempted to go online and see what happens, but once you click on the link it does it right away, before you can say no thanks..

    Any help would be appreciated...
