I'm in cancel, switch & negotiate mode as I'm almost out of contract Re: Broadband, Phone and TV.

Cancelled Sky 2 weeks ago as my current discount of 60% off expires. Current email offer of 50% off + £50 credit to stay. No deal. Let's wait and see what offers might materialise after Sky is switched off on 27th December.

My discounted broadband and phone contract with BT was also due to expire. Not much success here. BT warned me of the increase in cost for BT Sport if I left - I'd have to pay £19.99 a month instead of £5. I responded to that warning by cancelling BT Sport too.

BT retentions gave up when I mentioned I was interested in the Plusnet deal and whether they could match it - free broadband 12 months + line rental + £75 cashback, so I ended up switching. Smooth transition early morning on Monday around 6am. Still awaiting email about how to claim the £75 cashback though.

I'm happy with this sky deal, maybe I could have got a little better who knows.

Currently on variety bundle, evening and weekend calls and unlimited broadband. Currently pay £48.90 but was due to increase to around £61 in January. Changing to pay as you talk with them would reduce this to around £57, which I did as we don't use the landline.

Spoke on live chat on 1 December, who offered moderate discounts on each element, overall offer £38.60 a month for 10 months. Patronisingly told how good a deal this was when I declined the offer! Set my TV to disconnect on 1 Jan.

No offers came on My Sky but today I received an email offering 50% off TV for 12 months plus £50 credit. Went onto live chat to see how far I could push it... Came away with:

60% off TV for a year plus £50 credit
    Free broadband for a year
Line rental reduced from £17.60 to £9.99 for 10 months

So £21.99 for 10 months then still only £29.60 for the last two months. Since I was doing this with an unsettled newborn in my hands I'm well happy with that!
  • I currently have Virgin Media (VM)

    TV M+
    BB L
Phone M+ (free landline calls weekends only)
    TIVO 500
    Extra HD Box

Paying £28.50 plus line rental saver £164

    SKY have offered

    TV equivalent of XL
    BB
    Phone - free weekends
    Sky plus box
    Sky multi-room
    including line rental £36.50

I phoned VM and told them about the offer from Sky and all they did was tell me how crap Sky broadband speeds are and insisted that as I hadn't had a letter from VM showing my prices will increase I could not leave for free

Following week received a letter from VM saying my prices will increase and I can leave for free

Phoned VM on "thinking of leaving" option - they offered me same package as sky for £41.50 - told them this is not as good a deal, only to be told again how bad Sky's broadband speeds are and that "he" would rather pay the extra and get good broadband !

Phoned again a few days later and was told I am on the best price for my services and they can only offer Movie channels free for 3 months - no reduction in price and no stopping the increase in Feb

Help ! Do I actually have to ask them to disconnect all my services to get a better offer ? If I do this can I cancel at the last minute and keep my services ?

    Yes you do.

    Yes.

You could of course actually move to Sky.

Thanks jem - the only problem is the Sky offer was made in a local shopping centre and I was told was valid for 1 week only. When I phoned VM threatening to leave I was told I could not leave for free as I had not been advised of a price increase

Then the following week I got a letter telling me about the price increase and saying I could leave for free !

As I did not get back to Sky the same week I am not sure the same offer would still be valid - although If I cant get a better deal from VM I may take a trip to town again and see what Sky are offering this week . Obviously I haven't told VM any of this as far as they are concerned the offer has been made by Sky and I haven't mentioned any time limits on the offer

Which TV pack is it that they've based the price on?

You can also use Quidco or Topcashback for deals on joining Sky.
  • Im currently still in contract with Sky until July until I ring up 31 days before to give notice, however! For the past 4/5 month my broadband which ive had with them for years is barely working and whenever it does work its so slow! Seriously thinking of giving notice now and threatening to just pay the £112 early termination fee!
    Was thinking of demanding a good deal for their unlimited fibre but who's to say I wont have issues with their fibre either? Ive been with Sky for 5 odd year now & currently paying (which was a retentions deal);
    Original with Movies - £27.75
    Sky Broadband Unlimited - free
Sky Talk Line Rental - £12.40
    Total £40.15
If all else fails ill just go elsewhere for fibre BB because I cannot deal with having zero at the moment!
What do you guys and galls think?

You need to find out why it's like this as it's more than likely the same issue will be there regardless of the provider as they all use the same wires, apart from Virgin.

First thing to do is contact Sky to see if there is a fault that can be fixed.

Just been on the phone to them there about it and they said they've recently changed their T&C so even if your still in contract (and wanting to cancel TV package) and willing to pay the ETF, you cant cancel... But BB and phone line you can. To cut it short, for the inconvenience they've given £80 account credit and knocked my payments down to £32pm so cant complain, also engineer is coming out this week to have a look :) Happy days
  • Do Virgin do renewal contracts/deals (for existing customers) for 18 months?

All my renewals have always been for 12 but some seem to suggest being offered 18 month deals on here.
